Chapter 16 -  I Also Have the Right to Choose

Angga is still lying on the sofa and almost asleep if only the ringing of his cellphone didn't scream deafeningly. Reluctantly, the young man reached for the noisy object that had been placed on the table.

"Hoaammhh… yes hello. Who am I talking to?" he asked without paying attention to who was calling.

"Hello, Erlangga."

Angga's black eyes widened when he heard the familiar voice. He half-jumping, to got up from his bed while ruffling his hair like a frustrated person. He regretted that he immediately accepted the call, without seeing the caller's name first.

"Hello, Angga?" The voice from the other end of the phone rang again and made Angga even more panicked.

"Ha-hello, Uncle Jho. Sorry, I was very sleepy. H-how, is there anything I can help you with?" stuttered a little, Angga answered.

"Oh, I want to talk to Evan. Since earlier, I have contacted him but there is no answer. Not even the message was read." There was an annoyed tone at the end of Jonathan's sentence which made Angga frown.

"We are busy outside all day, Om. Especially after meeting some colleagues. They asked me and Evan to visit their private house," answered Angga casually.

"Oh yes? Is that a sign that we have a good chance of collaborating with that colleague?" asked Jonathan, somewhat enthusiastically.

"G-good, Uncle. The opportunity is great because in this area there is no complete supermarket. What is here is only a mini market."

"In that case, okay. Then can you tell Evan I called? I have some important things to discuss with him. Hmmm… why is he so hard to contact…" The voice from the other end of the phone sounded firm and full of irritation.

"O-okay, Om. Quick. Earlier, Evan had gone into his room, probably taking a shower. But after this, I'll tell you right away when Om calls."

"Soon yes, Noga."

After answering like that, the phone immediately disconnected. Hurrying up, Angga immediately went to Evan's room. Then like a criminal at a dead end, with a bit of irritation, he banged on his friend's room quite loudly.

"Van… Evan, hurry up and open the door!" shouted Angga as he kept banging on the door which succeeded in making noise in the house.

Evan, who had just finished his shower, spontaneously became immediately irritated by Angga's barbaric attitude. Snorting in annoyance, he walked towards the bedroom door which was constantly pounding from outside.

"Can you slow down? After a long time, this door also burst." Evan answered while looking viciously at Angga.

"You've ignored Uncle Jho's calls too many times, Van. I know you're upset, but don't be like this. Aren't you ashamed? Every time Uncle Jho fails to call you, he always calls me and of course calls Berlin too," Angga shouted without pause as soon as the bedroom door was opened.

Evan just kept quiet and didn't give any response, when Angga eloquently grumbled. As if not wanting to argue, he chose to go back into the room to change clothes.

"After this, I'll call you back. Thanks," Evan said in a flat tone without turning to Angga.

Not getting another answer, Angga decided to close the door to Evan's room and leave. He knew that his best friend would be annoyed with his words, but Angga didn't care. What he did was simply because he cared about Evan.

Angga just wants Evan not to keep avoiding the matchmaking chat. If you keep running, won't the problem never be solved?

---

Evan grabbed his cell phone, then called his Papa who had called him several times. The missed calls did not only come from the middle-aged man but his mother and also from Berlin.

It didn't take long, the call was received by Jonathan. They talked for a long time. Several things were immediately discussed, including one of the most important ones regarding the cooperation plan with colleagues who are the target of Galaxy Hemachandra Company.

Evan explained in full to Jhonatan regarding the development of the company's plans that had been set. The middle-aged man responded in a satisfied tone. Because it is enough just to hear the progress of the child, Jonathan can predict how the direction of the collaboration will go.

After discussing work, Jonathan again conveyed Evan's relationship with Berlin. Without further ado, the old man asked Evan to finish his task immediately. Without asking the child for consideration, he immediately targeted his agenda.

And predictably, an ultimatum came. That is, it contains that the child will only be given time to reach the physical construction stage of the Supermarket only if an agreement has been reached in cooperation. After that, he had to go home immediately to hold the Berlin girl's marriage ceremony which had to be done immediately.

"Papa ... there is something I want to say regarding the event," said Evan after finding the right moment to respond to Papa's words.

"Oh… just say it, kid."

"Berlin… Berlin doesn't want this matchmaking plan. He's been telling me about it ever since it started, Pa."

There was no response from Jonathan. Only the sound of regular breathing could be heard from the middle-aged man. Meanwhile, Evan was also silent and did not continue his sentence. He was waiting for what answer his father wanted to give.

"Haha… no kidding, Stevan Harshil."

There was a crisp laugh from Jonathan which broke the silence between father and son.

"I'm serious, Dad. Berlin personally rejects this matchmaking, and so do I."

"Berlin's parents themselves said that their daughter was so enthusiastic about this plan. Because since high school, don't you guys like each other already?"

"He just feels bad for his parents, Pa."

"Haha, already. You better rest now, Stefan. Angga said, today you are so busy. Must be tired, right?"

"Please, don't divert our conversation. Doesn't Papa want me to discuss this matter?" cold, Evan's tone had changed as emotions began to fill his heart.

Jonathan did not immediately respond. The man was silent and again only the sound of his breathing could be heard.

"This is a problem for me, Pa. Because this matchmaking is not my wish or Berlin's wish, but the wish of all of you. Now, can Papa explain the real reason why Papa is so insistent on holding the event? I hope, the reason is not to advance the company like what daddy keeps telling me. tsk! After all, my work has been unsatisfactory so far, right?"

All the words that had been stuck in Evan's mind had spilled out. He felt dissatisfied if he had to express his feelings over the phone. However, it seems that Evan can no longer remain silent and dodge, like what Angga said.

"Papa's children are not only Agatha or Andre. There is me who also has the right to choose my path in life. So far, I have followed all the directions from Dad, when my two brothers could choose their path in life," added Evan, no less emotional than the previous expression.

Evan closed his eyes, catching his breath. His chest heaved up and down, his left hand clenched tightly. Evan was silent, while Jonathan still didn't want to give any response. However, the middle-aged man was still listening. His sigh was a sign that he was listening to what Evan had to say.

"If there's nothing else important that Papa wants to say, I'll end this call. Don't forget to give my regards to Mama."

"Get some rest, you must be tired. Angga said that all day you two came to visit potential colleagues who were planning to cooperate with us…" That was Jhonatan's only response, without wanting to mention what Evan had to say.

Feeling that daddy had nothing else to say, Evan decided to end the call without the usual closing greeting.

Evan's emotional expression to his father did not escape the ears of Angga, who was still standing near the door of Evan's room. In his heart, he was also concerned about the situation that was being experienced by his friend.

Angga knows how hard Evan has tried to fulfill all the orders given by Jhonatan. Everything is very well done, even very satisfying. All of which was minimal with a blemish.

At first, Evan did his father's orders as a sign of his devotion as a child. In addition, because of his two brothers, no one wants to be the successor to the Galaxy. The company has become a source of livelihood for the family and also a field of sustenance for many employees.

But getting here, the loyalty that Evan gave, even began to be used by his father. Jonathan more often arranges it for this and that. If it's still work-related, Evan doesn't mind at all. However, the decree began to spread in a personal direction.

"Arrggh ... shit," Evan grumbled softly, then put his cell phone on the table and chose to continue changing his clothes.

Meanwhile, after there was no more sound from Evan's room, Angga decided to leave. Apart from not wanting his friend to know he was still in front of the room, it turned out that at that time Berlin also called him.
