Helen’s anger was obvious. Her threatening words and growls only sealed how angry she really was over whatever had happened to her. She was here to seek revenge for something Sonny and I had never been privy to, all because of her own selfishness.
“Helen, please…” I said calmly, trying to get her to calm down and speak logically. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a lot of the women and children from Sonny’s pack slipping away from the clearing. If I could stall for time, I could help them get to safety.
“Don’t you dare!” she growled at me again.
I tried to hold back my wolf as much as I could. I knew she was in pain, grieving from whatever had happened to her.
“Helen…” I repeated in a level voice. “Tell me what happened.”
“As if he doesn’t know,” she growled. “His stupid mother happened.”
“I don’t understand, Helen.”
“His father and I were friends for so long, and he led me on, making believe that I was his mate. That he loved me.”
