"Mother.... she is so innocent. Probably in her early teens. She looked so frightened by the mere mention of her cousin. Her cousin is very abusive. I pray you help her mother. Please mother." Sara pleaded with her mother.
They had just finished speaking about her engagement dated for the next day.
Nawar was dumbfounded. Roti was her personal maid. She was the one who made the best local dishes for her. Nawar never expected this behaviour from her. Nawar knew of Roti's blind cousin and was kind enough to increase Roti's pay, just so that, she could take better care of her blind cousin. Not knowing, this Roti was a green snake under green grass.
"What do you suggest we do Sara? We can't just take the young girl away from her. She could easily press charges against us for manipulation or worse." Nawar told her daughter.
"And I don't think brother Gabriel would like to help her even after he knocked her down with his car the other time and didn't show any sign of remorse. Instead he got mad at her" Sara said sadly with literal tears in her eyes.
Nawar's eyes grew large. Gabriel did what?! He knocked who?
"Gabriel did what?!" Nawar was angry. Angry at Gabriel. He knocked a blind girl down and didn't see anything wrong with it? She knew he had his own issues to deal with. But he should never have spoke angrily to the meek girl.
"Mama? It was a mista...." Sara was cut short when Gabriel walked in. He looked like he had just taken a shower cuz his hair was still wet. Nawar's angry eyes went to him and he knew he was in trouble.
"What have I done now Mama?" he asked the unasked. She looked more angry.
"You stubborn little boy! You knocked down a blind girl and didn't even tell me or even apologise to her?!" she snapped at him. He looked surprised and his eyes went to his sister Sara. She gave him the 'I didn't mean to' look. He ignored it and kept his peace.
"Sorry Mama" he apologised casually. She gave him a sad pout and he hugged her and whispered to her.
"I'm sorry Mama" she cut the hug short and once again growled at him.
"I'm going to ask that she comes over to the mansion with her cousin. You are going to apologise to her. You hear me?!" she snapped at him.
"What?!!!!" Gabriel growled. He had never apologised to anyone but his mother. Did she expect him to apologise to that blind girl?! What The Fuck?!
But the face his mother gave him said it all. If he didn't do it, she would be very unhappy with him.
" I'll send for them tomorrow evening. Make up your mind to apologise or bear with me, I will never be happy with you!" his mother warned.
Gabriel sighed and nodded before giving his sister Sara a surprising wink before leaving.
Sara had expected him to be mad at her but he actually looked pleased.
He definitely had something up his sleeves. She prayed it didn't involve that little girl.
"Sara. Once again, Huzaifah will be coming over tomorrow evening for the engagement ceremony . Do, be of the best behaviour and avoid making eye contacts with him. " her mother adviced.
Sara blushed at that. Huzaifah was her weakness. He was her future husband and she loved him. Gabriel didn't really like him though. Not that he hated him, but he was over protective of his younger sister and didn't want her to marry a man like him.
Huzaifah wasn't so bad though. He was a cardiologist and the head of the cardiothoracic centre of their side of Pakistan. He was just 2 years younger than Gabriel.
"What does he want this time?" a growl came from Gabriel who had just returned to the hall from his room. He was in his track suit and looked like, he was about to take a jog. Or maybe head down to his private gym downstairs.
" You have to start tolerating that young man Gabriel! He's your future brother in law. You better start liking him" his mother snapped at him. Gabriel gave a unmoved smirk to his mother and begun walking away. This time towards the back door.
The giant front door opened lightly as the worker walked in. It was Roti. She had a worried face and a lucidly disorganised look. It raised suspicion within Gabriel. He hadn't taken notice of her ever before. But today, his instincts were telling him that something was very fishy.
"G-Good morning Ma'am" she quickly greeted trying to avoid eye contact with Sara and Gabriel.
"Good morning Roti. Are you alright?" Nawar asked. Suddenly she became concerned about this lady before her. Cold sweat slid down her face. The moment she was dreading.
Her son had gone out on a mission to steal some weapons and hadn't returned since. She feared that Gabriel had caught him or worse.....
"I-It's nothing....I just lost an aunt yesternight" she lied. Her face said it all. From the sudden wrinkles round her face to her face losing its colour.
"Oh, I'm sorry then" Nawar said casually. She knew Roti was lying. Roti may have forgotten this but she narrated the whole story of her life to her Mistress. She couldn't possibly lie to her now.
Gabriel after a while of staring at Roti with distaste, he turned around and walked to the door.
He was up to some no good. And Roti could feel it. Her attention was centred on his disappearing back. Trepidation run through her veins and she could almost hear her son call for aid from her.
"Oh Roti? Sara told me about your niece and how Gabriel knocked her down recently. Can you bring her along with you tomorrow for the engagement?" Nawar asked.
Roti looked uncomfortable for a moment before she finally nodded. She was dismissed and returned to her position.
"Wallah, something isn't sitting right with me Sara. I hope that poor girl is safe" Nawar muttered.
For her age, she was one who had that special 6th sense thing. If something wasn't right, she would feel it immediately. They both became worried for the young girl.
Gabriel rather on the other hand, stood leaning against the wall in the darkness of the corridor staring intensely at Roti.
He was up to some no good.
*****
Suddenly, the door to the room burst open with Roti rushing in. It was 9 o'clock in the morning for God's sake and her son was not back yet. She knew Gabriel was a diligent man and very time conscious so he never got to his workplace late or before time.
"David!!! Why isn't Basit back yet?! He left yesterday at 11 and its 9am already and he's not back. He's not been taking my calls either. Find my son for me David!!!" she wailed.
Just hours earlier she was in a rush to get her younger cousin ready for a forced marriage but now, her son's absence had just brought her back to her senses. Hikma who lay there almost raped was terrified. What was going on? She heard this man's low growls as he got off her. She said a slight Alhamdulilah. Her Lord was greater than these evil people. She quickly pulled her blankets over her almost naked body and scooted away from any direction she felt uncomfortable with.
Just then, more trouble came. David's phone begun ringing. He took it immediately. He was still sexually excited right now and wanted to settle this before going back to what he was doing. He quickly picked up. It was James, Basit's best friend and his accomplice to steal the weapons. He quickly picked up.
"Where the fuck are you and Basit?!!!" he growled at him.
"Erm....Boss? Basit was caught. I almost got caught too. I was quite lucky." he revealed in fear of the hot pursuit he went through hours ago and his Boss's fury.
David let out a loud fear inflicting growl. Hikma scooted away in fear. Roti became alarmed. What had happened to her son? Did something happen to him?
"You should have let them capture you. I'm going to kill you myself!!!" David growled before hanging up. He turned to face Roti who had started another session of her weeping. She knew her son had been captured and feared the worst that was coming.
"GIVE ME BACK MY SON !!!!! FIND MY SON FOR ME BEFORE I DIE !!!!" she wailed as she pulled him by the collar. He tried to calm her down. He had a sinister plan in his head.
"Calm down Roti. I have a plan" he assured.
Hikma's eyes raced through the room. Her ears had heard all and she wondered what was going on. She had no idea what was about to happen. The silence scared her. What had they done? What happened to Basit? Was he dead? Had they stolen? Or killed someone?
It was beating her mind. She just couldn't pin down what was going on.
"It was a pleasure meeting you my little princess" she finally heard David's tone as he departed. That word 'princess' made her sick. He was disgusting. A paedophile. She hated him.
With that, he walked out of the room with her wicked cousin behind him.
What were they up to?
I LIKE HIKMA. WHAT ABOUT YOU?
