Chapter 11 - Friends

"I hope this will help you can understand the position we were in all those years ago." handing a brown sheet to Jonah whose ambience seemed to shift as he scanned its contents.

The guests exchanged side glances for less than a second which Sarah noticed. In Mrs Douglas' hand was what looked like an old photo.

"We will take our leave, now." Mrs Douglas who by now came across as the leader of the group spoke out, taking her grey handbag and still with the picture, clutched in her hand.

The others followed suit and stood up in unison.

Sarah looked to Jonah who was once again, frowning. Mrs Gonzalez locked eyes with Sarah before asking Jonah,

"what is it, Jonah?"

"This is shit," he said quietly still glaring at the letter in his hands

"What?" Miss Fernandez didn't even bother to scold his language.

He looked up to lock eyes with the smug old woman. He stood up walked up to her and in her face, he tore the piece of paper in half.

"She eloping with friends does not justify anything I went through, you should have done more to find your own fucking daughter."

You could have sliced the tension in the room with a knife.

"You are still to blame, for being fucking irresponsible and still you are ignorant to that fact!" he yelled.

"I reckoned you would be more reasonable but I guess I was wrong to assume that much of you." finally she handed the photo to an infuriated Jonah who was reluctant at first before accepting.

The moment his eyes fell on the image, they widened. Confusion and fear had replaced the resentment.

"Those were the friends she eloped with." her voice said in a monotone manner with not an ounce of feeling.

Jonah's mouth remained agape.

"What is it, Jonah?" Sarah was on her feet. She shook his limp shoulders. "What did you see?"

"They... they are the..." He was trembling. Sarah took the intuitive to take the picture. There in the picture were four teenagers. A brunette that Jonah resembled and another girl with two other boys that Sarah didn't recognise at all.

"Who are they?" Sarah asked

There were tears in his eyes now, which startled her.

He was quietly sobbing as he slumped into his seat and wept.

"They are the psychopaths his mother often rented him to." The old lady stated causally.

"For drugs," she added
