Chapter 12 - The letters

Sarah studied the picture on her hands again, shocked and fully understanding Jonah's reaction. She didn't even notice the administrator getting close and collecting the picture to analyse it herself.

"We tried tracking her when she disappeared but all our efforts were futile because her so-called friends had connections for their dreadful services." Mr Douglas spoke up for the first time since the introduction.

"Services?!" asked the administrator.

"Yes, services," Charles gulped. "They sold videos of child pornography to the most infamous human trafficking ring in the city."

"And they were the ones that ensured that tracking your mother was impossible, they wanted you to make money and your mother kept you for drugs."

Jonah looked up at his father, his eyes filled with tears. They glowed with pain and a deep longing

Charles made his way to his son's seat, bent down and placed a hand on his shoulder. Jonah didn't shake it off.

"I know apologizing will never make up for everything they did to you," including the boy's own mother.

"but give me a chance to make it up to you."

Jonah didn't reply but instead, he seemed to search his father's face for sincerity. The father that had not existed in his life about thirty minutes ago.

"Please," Charles pleaded.

"What about her?" Jonah asked. They all knew who he was talking about.

The fact he was talking about his mother for the first since their initial discussion, gave Sarah hope he would find more closure.

"She is at a rehabilitation centre." Mrs Douglas's familiar authoritative tone cut through the awkward silence.

Jonah had made Sarah promise not to talk about his mother or even contact her. Seeing what the so-called mother had done to her son, Sarah in all fairness wanted nothing to do with her.

"Okay," Jonah put his hand into his pocket to retrieve a handkerchief which he used to wipe his tears. "From now on she doesn't exist."

I spoke too soon, Sarah thought disappointed.

"Done." disturbingly, the voice was owned by Mrs Douglas. They were talking about her own flesh and blood. Mr Douglas stood expressionless. Almost as though he was used his wife's blunt and surprising way with words.

Jonah looked squarely at his grandmother, the woman responded with a blank stare. He stood as his father followed suit.

"Once you make it up to me, we see where to go from there." with his hands in his pocket he continued. "Good day." before walking out of the room to the corridor without another word.

The guest took their leave soon after.

A woman receives a phone call, picking it up she sets her tea on the table and answers.

"Yes? Sasha?"

"Yes, Ma'am I just wanted to tell you that she won't stop."

"The letters?"

"Yes."

"None must make it, do you understand?"

"Understood."

The line goes silent with a beep

Her husband sitting adjacent to her took a sip of tea. "Can't we just finish her off?"

"No we need the disdain he as for her to work to our advantage."

"You witch!" He grinned

Smirking, she comes closer and takes the tea from him and places it on the table. "Yes, baby but this witch turns you on." biting his lip till it bleeds.

He lets out a throaty groan. He grabs her head and fiercely kisses her, an action which she reciprocates.
