The work at the lab was pretty easy, at least for me. Since most of the scientists wanted nothing to do with those kids, I offered to do the job for them. Of course, I alone couldn't do all the work, so the rest were chosen each day from a random list of names. Without working in the office, I was free from the stress my coworkers were experiencing, which apparently was pretty bad since whatever approach they were trying ultimately failed the simulation test.
'But still, I alone can't deal with all of these kids? Why didn't they bring in a nanny or something?'
The kids had no names; only a number was written on their foreheads, and that was all they needed to identify themselves. It was a bit cruel, but there was no need to get too attached to them since they were all dying young. That was what I thought until I saw the way they were dying.
