You sit in front of Mrs. Belle and as she's sitting in her rocking hair, she gently brushes your hair while you read your book. You're in chapter eight of the book and so far the princess is beginning to think that the criminal may have a tender heart and eyes of warmth. Then the bitter cold she felt the first time she's been in his presence.
.
Y/n: 'Tis unfeasible for a lady of sovereignty to feel such pity for a rotter.
Mrs. Belle: Oh I love the poetry and structure of these stories.
Y/n: What does rotter mean?
Mrs. Belle: An unkind person.
Y/n: Oh. But since the yesternight, the orbs of misdeed also displayed spirit. He claims to never lay a finger on a dame and damsel before expressing his sentiment towards the royal families. How we squander our wealth while the villagers suffer from famine. I do not share fault. My father, the king, is responsible for the villagers, not I.
Mrs. Belle: She doesn't sound like a good princess.
Y/n: Maybe she'll change later in the book.
.
You then see Beans walk up to both of you. You can tell she's still a bit heartbroken since Rango left town after tricking everyone to believe he was a legend. You do feel bad for her knowing that she did have a crush on him.
.
Y/n: Hey Beans. (You smile)
Mrs. Belle: Good afternoon miss Beans. Is something the matter?
Beans: Well I...
.
She sighs as she sits down on the stairs next to you. Giving her your full attention, she turns to you.
.
Beans: The mayor just bought the third to last farms. Now it's me and this other farmer he's trying to buy off of.
.
Mrs. Belle: I'm so sorry to hear that Beans.
Y/n: Are you worried that... you'll sell your land?
Beans: Never. He can keep his money and I'll be keeping my land. My father built the land for us and it's the only thing left of him. I was just at his office and saw the farmer sign the contract. That snake is there too.
Y/n: Rattlesnake Jake?
Beans: The only snake in this town.
Mrs. Belle: One of the biggest snakes I've ever seen indeed.
Beans: He shows no mercy to us... us kind of folks...
Y/n: Prey?
Mrs. Belle: Oh yes.
.
This reminds you of what happened a couple of nights ago. Your second interaction with Rattlesnake Jake. He could have eaten you if he wanted to and no one will know what happened to you. You know he eats prey like you and yet... he didn't devour you alive. And he said he was sorry for your situation of how you got here.
He said he hates liars too. Maybe there's a small part of him that's... good. He could have eaten some of the townspeople, and he hadn't. Maybe the mayor told him not to. But you were alone with him that night, so he definitely had the opportunity to kill you, but instead, he just let you go.
.
Beans: I don't know what will come of this town now.
Mrs. Belle: The best we can do is hope for a miracle.
Beans: A real hero... right...
.
Beans then gets up.
.
Beans: I got to head back, I'll see ya around.
Y/n: Later Beans.
Mrs. Belle: Goodbye miss Beans.
.
She hops on her wagon and heads off as you watch her leave.
.
Mrs. Belle: Poor woman, suffering a broken heart is something no woman should bear.
Y/n: I know, tell me about it. She deserves better than this.
Mrs. Belle: I hope to see a shooting star one night.
Y/n: A shooting star?
Mrs. Belle: I remember staying up at nights when I was a young bunny and I would watch the skies in hope of seeing one. It didn't happen every night, more like every now and again. But when I saw one, I would make a wish for something great for this town. Well, that's enough brushing for today. Come now, I'll teach you how to stitch a dress.
.
.
.
Night Comes...
.
.
.
Y/n: Perhaps... there is a slim chance this man could... be of use to my father... We shall see when he arrives back. There's something odd about this man... endearing to the common women, I should know. But his gaze captivates and surpasses the eyes of the princes.
.
Placing the book down on the bed, you head towards the balcony. The weather is the same as all other nights since you've been here. A bit cold, but you can manage.
.
Y/n: The orbs of misdeed also displayed spirit...
.
You think back to those intense Hell's eyes that the snake has. You've never seen eyes like his before... They look like something off of a paranormal horror movie. They look evil but... they also show... spirit. You don't know, and honestly, for some reason, you feel like chatting with him again.
You head back inside, only to hurry down the stairs without waking Mrs. Belle up. She'll have a heart attack if she knew you were going outside just to talk to Rattlesnake Jake, as she pretty much sees you as her own daughter. Once outside, you shut the door and head straight down like last time.
.
.
Main Owl: Curiosity does get the better of everyone, including myself. But this rabbit is taking a monumental risk of becoming the snake's dinner than a companion. But perhaps I could be wrong. We shall see what tonight awaits this woman.
.
.
You stop in your tracks and look behind you to see you're a good amount of distance from your home, but not too far like last time. You look at the night sky above you, not seeing anyone but you here. You're sort of hoping to see Rattlesnake Jake out here, but... maybe he's not out here this time.
Just as you were thinking of calling it a night, you hear a familiar sound of rattling behind you. You were a bit scared by it as you turn around to see the same snake as that night.
.
Rattlesnake Jake: Well look who decided not to follow my advice.
.
He coils himself around you, but there's some space between you and his body. He leans himself towards you and sticks his tongue out a bit to get your scent in the air since you're this close to him.
.
Y/n: W-Well actually, I was hoping I catch you out here.
Rattlesnake Jake: (Chuckles) Is that right? Well like I told ya before, coming out here all alone. A fragile little rabbit like you stands no chance with someone like me. Don't tell me you want me to eat you?
.
He smirks as his body starts to close in on you. Now there's bearly any space for you to move now that his coils are wrapping around your body. There goes your heart getting ready to explode. Surely... maybe he's not going to eat you. You can't show too much fear. His head is now a foot away from you and same as last time, you're at his mercy.
.
Rattlesnake Jake: You want me to eat you alive or... I can slowly squeeze them pretty little eyes out. Hm?
Y/n: N-No, I don't want to be eaten.
Rattlesnake Jake: Then why else would you wanna see me?
.
Those eyes... those Hellfire eyes stare down into your soul. You know you can't run from him, even if you did, you can't outrun him.
.
Y/n: W-Well I... I just... wanted to know you.
Rattlesnake Jake: What's to know about me? You already heard about me.
Y/n: N-Not as much as you think, I only know your name.
Rattlesnake Jake: Is that it?
Y/n: A-And you're scared of that hawk the ex-sheriff killed.
Rattlesnake Jake: (Hisses) I'll give you that there. But any other species I ain't scared of. Now tell me, why do you want to know about me?
Y/n: I-I was thinking that... you're... you're not so bad...
Rattlesnake Jake: (Laughs) Not so bad? (Loosens himself but still keeps a good hold of you) Then you really don't know a thing about me, do you?
.
You shake your head no.
.
Rattlesnake Jake: You really are an innocent little rabbit, aren't ya? It's cute. Now let me say this, I do have a code of honor. But everything else... let's just say I... don't take too kindly to liars, cheaters, and folks that make my job difficult or... it's my job to get rid of those folks. Ya get the picture now?
Y/n: Y-Yeah.
Rattlesnake Jake: And my job now is to assist the mayor in whatever missions he has for me. Ya see, I don't take just any job. My services are specifically two things. Protection and assassin. And when either the job is done or there's no money, I head on to the next boss.
Y/n: So you're a mercenary?
Rattlesnake Jake: Exactly little bunny. I killed so many people that I lost count of those who fall beneath me or... they become my meal.
Y/n: Wow um...
Rattlesnake Jake: It ain't a job for the weak, Y/n. I'm a predator that takes and serves until it's all done. So, I'm worse than you can imagine.
Y/n: That may be true but, that night when I first came out here. You could have eaten me.
Rattlesnake Jake: Exactly.
Y/n: But that time and now, we're having a friendly conversation and... umm...
Rattlesnake Jake: (Chuckles) You're a strange rabbit. But I like you.
.
Is it just you or is your body getting warmer? Well, he's still wrapped around your whole body, so maybe it's that.
.
Y/n: Uh y-yeah, I-I like you too. And you know, I-I don't mind conversations like this.
Rattlesnake Jake: Well, you'll be the first to say that.
.
Without realizing you found yourself smiling, though a bit was out of nervousness. You do feel a little more comfortable than that night before.
.
Y/n: It's getting pretty late, but if you like, we can chat tomorrow night.
Rattlesnake Jake: Actually, why don't you come by the mayor's office first thing in the morning? They're going to be playing golf near the outside of town. I'm sure they don't mind if I bring you along.
Y/n: Really? Uh, y-yeah I can come. Yeah.
.
You both smile at each other before he tightens his coils around you and lifts you up off the ground about a few feet. He then slithers towards your home while carrying you there. He stops in front of the back door and gently puts you down in front of the door.
.
Y/n: (Smile) T-Thanks, I didn't have to walk over here. I'll uh... I'll see you in the morning. Um... goodnight, Rattlesnake Jake.
Rattlesnake Jake: Night, little bunny.
.
You head inside and quietly head upstairs to your room. Wanting to know if he's still out there, you hurry to the balcony and when you get there; you see him slithering away, heading towards the empty desert. You smile before going back inside and going to bed. The moment you went inside was the moment Jake turns his head towards your home and lets out a slight chuckle to himself before heading out on his way.
.
.
Main Owl: It seems like the snake has taken a liken to this woman. He didn't eat her, which most snakes would have. And now we shall wait till tomorrow to see what fate has for these two.
