You take a deep breath and start, "There's something I want to tell you. I think you're great—I really do. But I don't think we're right for each other. You deserve more than what I can give you."
"Wait." Carla shakes her head, her eyes crinkling in disbelief and pain. "Are you breaking up with me?"
"I'm sorry," you say again. "It's not you. It's me."
"What the hell, Pika Shimon Capela?" Carla runs a hand through her hair, rumpling the curls away from her forehead and letting them fall down again. "We've been together almost two years! We've been through everything together. We saved the freakin' world together! Things were good! And you're just breaking up with me like that? Is this because I'm not going to college?" Carla's voice grows louder with every word, filling with furious hurt. "Because if it is, you can go off to your fancy college and your fancy camp and stay the hell away from me!"
Without even waiting for you to answer, Carla turns and bolts away.
