Under the strange gazes of the pedestrians on the street, Anita told herself not to care about other people's gazes. Finally, she reached her temporary home. As soon as she pushed the door open and entered, Anita couldn't hold on any longer. Her legs went limp and she fell to the ground.
At this moment, tears finally began to fall. At first, they were drops, but later, they became sobs. The grievances she had suffered these past few days had finally struck Anita, She could finally vent them all after she returned to her own place.
Although Anita had grown up in a poor working class family and her parents were not in good health, everything they had would be given to her, so she had always grown up in a loving environment.
Although her ex-boyfriend, Eric, didn't get along well with her, Anita had always thought they would eventually get married. But at this point, she realized that life was full of twists and turns.
With the hangover, the loud sobs, and the wad of cash that had fallen to the ground, Anita was beginning to realize that she couldn't go on like this. If this kept going on, there was no telling what she would do.
Anita's life of poverty with her parents had taught Anita to be resilient, so she didn't give herself too long to grieve.
As she was deep in thought, there was a ringing sound. Anita reached out and searched frantically. She thought she had lost her phone last night, but it was still in her bag.
Seeing that it was her best friend, Ethan, who was calling, Anita quickly took a sip of water to soothe her sore throat, so that she wouldn't sound so hoarse.
"Hey…" Anita had just picked up.
"Hey, Anita, what are you doing? Why weren't you answering the phone?" Ethan's anxious voice rang in her ears.
"I…" Anita couldn't finish.
On the other end, Ethan said anxiously, "Do you know how many days I've been looking for you? You didn't reply to my calls or messages. Do you want to scare me to death?"
Hearing her best friend's words, Anita felt her cold heart start to warm up. There were still people who cared about her.
"Are you listening to me? Tell me, did you break up with Eric?" Ethan asked again.
When she heard the words break up, Anita's heart skipped a beat again. She really didn't know how to tell Ethan. When she was with Eric, Ethan had always told her not to be so good to Eric. Now, they really had broken up, so Anita said nothing for a long time.
On the other hand, when Ethan didn't hear Anita's response, he realized what was going on. He knew that Anita must be upset, and he couldn't bear to criticize her.
"Where are you living now? Do you want to move to my place?" Ethan said after some thought.
Anita finally responded. After hearing Ethan's invitation, she knew that Ethan was not blaming her for not listening to him. She was about to cry again. "Ethan, you're not going to criticize me? I knew you were the best!" Anita said with a sobbing tone.
"I have a place to stay now. I've found a new place to stay," Anita replied.
She did not dare to tell Ethan that she had been chased out because Eric hadn't paid the rent. She was afraid that Ethan would be impulsive and look for Eric. If the two of them fought, it would be Ethan who would be at a disadvantage, so Anita refrained from saying anything. In addition, she was afraid that Ethan would find out about the messy marks on her body, so after thinking about it, she rejected Ethan.
"Alright, I can't interfere with it." Ethan knew that Anita was hiding something from him, but they were just friends after all, so it was inappropriate for him to interfere too much.
"Yes, yes. Ethan, don't worry. I'll look for you after I'm done busying in a few days!" Anita pretended that she was fine.
"Anita, stop pretending. Do you think I can't tell that you're upset?" Ethan said with concern in his voice.
Anita didn't reply.
"I have a plane ticket to Thailand. How about this? You don't have to stay at home anymore. Go overseas and relax," Ethan said with a sigh.
In fact, Ethan had wanted to invite Anita to go with him, but it was obvious that it was inappropriate now, so Ethan said that there was only one plane ticket, which also made Anita feel less stressed.
"Go to Thailand? I…" After hearing Ethan's suggestion, Anita realized that she couldn't continue like this. If she continued to mope around, there was no telling what sort of trouble she would cause.
Anita looked at the wad of cash at her feet again and made a decision.
"Okay, thank you. I'll go overseas to test out the waters for you first!" Anita joked as she replied.
Ethan knew very well that Anita had always been like this. She was outgoing, generous, and she seemed to be tougher than even the guys. Every time something happened, Anita would always rush forward to protect him, but deep down, Anita was also a little girl who yearned to be cared for.
"Just go out and relax. I'm still at work, so I'm hanging up now!" Ethan replied with a smile.
