Chapter 4 - Start of Cataclysm

"Our civilization has been confronted with the greatest challenge in history." The elderly gentleman stood up and looked around the conference room, his voice a little strained.

"Our human civilization is still in its infancy... We won't even be able to land on Mars. I understand the limitations of human civilization and how absurd it is to rely on human civilization's power to change the sun. Difficult situations. We don't have a choice, though. We must face and overcome challenges in order to overcome this crisis. Our civilization as a whole will continue to exist. We will perish if we fail. There have been changes, and things are difficult, but not hopeless."

"I place my order... From this point forward, the human alliance will be in a state of war, and we will mobilize all of our forces to deal with the crisis. All scientists, engineers, politicians, workers, businesspeople, and people from all walks of life are included. All classes must band together. Only then will we have a chance to win."

"The meeting has concluded... You two, Alex and Virat, are welcome to stay ""said the old man."

Only Alex and Virat remained in the large conference room after the crowd dispersed.

"I've looked over your information." The old man gave Alex a sidelong glance "You have always displayed unusual abilities, from elementary school until you entered the Institute of Stellar Physics. You are a very intelligent and hardworking individual."

Alex had been fine when there were a lot of people around, but now that he was alone with the old man, he felt a tremendous amount of pressure. The old man in front of him was the human alliance's supreme leader, and he was the type of person Alex had never met before.

Alex was speechless in the face of this old man's praise.

"You don't have to feel bad about it because you are intelligent, hardworking, and eager to learn." Slowly, the old man said, "However, your intelligence and diligence are still within the realm of normal people in the context of human civilization. You haven't demonstrated any kind of ability that could be described as "sky-defying." Even in the scientific world, or even at the Institute of Stellar Physics, your abilities are not the best; at best, they can be described as the best. upper layer."

"Many people are smarter than you, and many people work harder than you do. So, Alex, I'm curious as to why Director Brad chose you at the last minute and trusted you with such a difficult task. Could you explain why?"

"I... I'm not sure." Alex pondered for a while before finally admitting the truth. Because the reality is that, despite what the old man said being cruel, and despite the fact that he did not care about his self-esteem, it was all true.

"Hey." The old man sighed, stood up, and walked to the window, where he gazed out the floor-to-ceiling window at the bustling city beneath his feet, leaving only Alex and Virat with a slightly stooped, but still very generous back.

"To be honest, Alex, I don't have the confidence to get through this crisis." "Says the old man," "Even though the sun has a mass more than one million times that of the earth, we are still powerless in the face of such a small planet. However, you know in your heart that these are words that should not be spoken in public. The only thing I can do is do everything I can to devote resources to this direction, and let scientists and engineers pursue it on behalf of the entire human race."

"To tell you the truth, I was on the verge of giving up when I received this news. But, thankfully, I got the next piece of information, and I know Director Brad has been aware of these issues for a long time. Director Brad told you that you were the only survivor and that you could answer all of our questions... I've had contact with Brad and am familiar with his personality. You must be able to do it because Brad said you can answer all of our questions, Doubt. If my faith in our civilization's technology is one percent, then my faith in Brad is at least one hundred percent Twenty percent."

"So... Alex, now I'm putting 20% of my faith in you." Turning around, the old man fixed his solemn gaze on Alex. "I know your skeptical right now, and I'm not sure what's going on, but if Brad did it, he must have a reason for doing so. Brad has faith in you, and I have faith in you as well."

"Alex, as long as you believe it is necessary, as long as you believe it will help you understand what Brad means, even if you want to go to the moon, I can satisfy you," says the narrator. The old man approached Brad and patted his shoulder, saying warmly: "If you need anything, just tell Virat, and Virat will take care of it. That's it, Alex; remember, you're in charge of human rights. destiny."

Only Alex and Virat remained in the conference room after the old man turned around and left.

Alex leaned against the seat, his hands covering his face, his mind racing.

"Why am I doing this to myself... why am I doing this to myself? Why did you choose me in the end, Brad?"

"In the future, I'll refer to you as No. 1 to make it easier for us to understand and communicate." "You can call me No. 2," Virat said coldly.

"Where's the trouble, I'd better call you by your name," Alex said reluctantly.

"Okay." "Number one, please instruct the next move," Virat said coldly.

" Allow me to take a break." Alex reluctantly stood up and walked to the conference room door.

The car was still being driven by Virat, Alex was sitting in the co-pilot seat, and his mind had already flown to where he wanted to go. Even Alex thought the world he was seeing was surreal. The throngs of people, the long lines of vehicles, the colossal structures, and even the slightly dim sun hanging in the sky all testified to this. a fictitious connotation

"How could this happen; how could this happen?" "How could this happen; how could this happen?" These words lingered in Alex's mind at all times.

For more than four billion years, the sun has been burning steadily since it was born from primordial interstellar gas. In comparison to this time scale, the five thousand years of human civilization documented in writing seem like a blink of an eye. The sun, on the other hand, changed dramatically in that moment. And it just so happened that human civilization developed and possessed some preliminary interstellar detection capabilities in the blink of an eye.
