Kira sat in the garden unable to get any sleep. She was worried about Melchoir. Who would know the night of her wedding and coronation a war will break out. She looked towards the sea trying to see the gates but she couldn't.
She only saw fire burning from a very long distance and smoke. It seems surprising the way people were still calm despite the war. Maybe they were confident that Melchoir will lead them to Victory.
Kira almost said she was saved by the war because she didn't want to comsumate the wedding yet not because she was scared of Melva controlling Melchoir or anything else, she was just scared. They've made out lots of time but it wasn't the same as having a intercourse.
Kira was awake all through the night. She couldn't even have breakfast no matter how much Eva and Uma persuaded her.
Her mother had followed them to the war that morning. News reached them that the enemies wouldn't retreat and their forces kept on growing and growing.
"How do you expect me to be calm when Melchoir and my mum are out there? I can't simply calm down." She yelled.
"Kira. Being angry or refusing to eat won't help you. You should just pray that everything will be okay." Eva sighed.
Kira tried her best to clear her head through out but hell no she couldn't. She couldn't stop thinking about Melchoir. She walked to the library to get some books, maybe it might help.
"Which type of books should I get your majesty?" The library attendant asked.
"Vitalia kingdom." She replied and the attendant bowed.
Kira managed to calm down a bit as she read the rules of Vitalia. She read some business stuffs and political matters she might likely encounter and how to deal with things as a Queen.
"Won't you go to bed Kira?" Uma asked.
"No thanks." Kira replied. If she goes to bed she'll start thinking about Melchoir again and start panicking.
"Okay no problem." Uma replied.
Bit reading didn't help her for long. She got frustrated seeing Melchoir's name all over the book and his pictures everywhere.
She walked into the room and fell on the bed miserably. It's been a whole day since the war started. She suddenly felt a presence in the room. She looked up and saw Melva sitting on the sofa.
"Melva?" She called.
"Why hello sister in law." Melva said sarcastically. "How have you been?"
"What are you doing here?" Kira asked.
"Oh, I've been able to visit you that's why and I came to deliver a message to you from your father in law whom you've never seen. He would be delighted to meet you. As long as you don't tell Melchoir you can visit him." Melva replied.
"And I'm a fool right?" Kira scoffed. "I can't leave this castle without him knowing."
"Oh, are you underestimating me?" Melva smirked.
"I don't even have anything to do with you. Why don't you just leave and stop intruding my privacy." Kira frowned.
"No problem." Melva then disappeared.
Kira gave a loud sigh before curling up in bed. She was getting dead worried right now.
"Your majesty....your majesty." Kira heard a distant voice and she slowly opened her eyes. It was already morning or precisely almost afternoon. "You've been sleeping for very long your majesty."
"Oh.." Kira sat up looking around.
"Shall I prepare your bath?" The maid asked.
"Yes." Kira replied.
The bath helped her a bit. She sat in the tub for a few minutes after her bath starting to get worried about Melchoir again.
"Where would you like to go your majesty?" The maid asked.
"What is your name?" Kira asked.
"Isla your majesty." She replied with her head bowed.
"Okay thank you. I would stay back in the room" Kira replied.
Not long after her peaceful loneliness was disrupted by Isla who said some chiefs wants to see her.
Kira walked to the meeting hall where they all sat. She was nervous because this was her first time sitting with them or talking to them.
As soon as she stepped in the all stood up and bowed. They all sat round a very large circular table with a map made on the table.
"This place your majesty." She was lead to her seat.
As soon as she sat down they all did the same. Kira looked at all of them nervously. There was a hint of fear on some of their expression. It was as if they were doing the wrong thing.
"Your majesty, since his majesty has been gone for a while, we need to deal with some urgent matters and we don't know when he'll return so we need you to decide." One of the chiefs said first.
"Sure." Kira replied and the chief brought some paperwork before her. She opened it and read through. "So now you're saying our soldiers aren't enough and we need to recruit new soldiers and we can't possibly recruit commoners because they are the future of our kingdom. So whom do you want to recruit if we don't recruit them?"
They all looked at her. None of them said anything.
"That's why we are here your majesty." The first chief said again.
"I say we recruit from the commoners because this is the first time I'll be hearing something like that. It's absurd." Kira frowned and they all gasped. "Sorry if it sounded rude."
"Yes your majesty."
"We'll recruit at least five hundred men. As far as I see now, the population of the kingdom's men are three thousand plus so I don't see why we can't recruit some men and besides it'll help them raise some money for their family helping reduce poverty in the kingdom." Kira replied surprising the chiefs.
"Yes your majesty." They replied.
"And the women your majesty. Population of unemployed women are much which...."
"Why are the women unemployed?" She didn't even allow them to finish.
"Um....well your..."
"We'll provide empowerment and create jobs for women and all. Let me see." Kira frowned looking at another bunch of papers. "We'll be needing about a hundred more maids. We'll be recruiting some maids along with soldiers."
"Yes your majesty." They said again.
"Good, now is that all?" She asked them and they all replied positive.
She stood up and adjusted her dress before clearing her throat. "His majesty will take care of the rest once he is back."
Kira walked out of the hall immediately. She knew those matters weren't urgent, they just wanted to see how smart she was that's the reason why. Melchoir would have taken care of this a long time ago.
That day too went by and Kira was starting to get worried for real now. A war like that can't last for three days, both day and night. Or maybe Melchoir had to deal with something or it was what she wasn't thinking.
She couldn't stand sleeping alone again. She might do what she doesn't think she can. She walked to Uma's room with a dull expression.
"What's up Kira?" Uma asked.
"I'm sick." Kira replied. "Can I sleep in your room just for tonight?"
"Oh my were you thinking of sneaking out? I know that's the only time you decide to sleep with someone." Uma gasped.
"I was thinking of." Kira replied laying on the bed.
"Don't even think about it. So you'll swim to the gates and when he sees you he'll get distracted and lose guard?" Uma frowned.
"I know." Kira groaned.
"Don't worry he'll be back soon. I heard they are doing well in the war." Uma replied.
"Everything seems to be mocking me for not having him around." Kira groaned.
"Stop imagining things." Uma hissed.
"Sure. I'm imagining things." Kira groaned.
By the following morning, Kira was looking sick and pale. There were dark circles around her eyes.
"Don't tell me you didn't sleep." Uma frowned looking at her friend.
"How can I sleep when my head is filled with stuffs." Kira mumbled rolling from one corner of the bed to another.
"So is this how you want his majesty to meet you? Like a damn bloodsucking vampire?" Uma frowned even deeper.
"I don't look like an vampire." Kira replied.
"Indeed." Uma nodded.
"Is it even possible for a war to last three days?" Kira frowned.
"Seriously a war can last a whole month none stop." Uma replied.
Meanwhile at the gates the Ophyrium soldiers were reducing drastically and they started retreating. Melchoir didn't want to unleash his powers but he had no choice. The Ophyriums seemed to come beyond prepared for them. The way they attacked underwater was the same way they attacked on the surface. Melchoir and the others had to create a barrier around the kingdom to prevent the enemies fire from hitting the kingdom. And they had to create an illusion so there won't be anything to catch the people's attention and start panicking.
They fought both day and night the gates did a great job preventing them from coming in. Melchoir had missed Kira and he couldn't wait to see her. He never felt so happy the enemies retreated. By the time they were done with everything they needed to check on it was nightfall already.
Melchoir was about to teleport to go back to the palace when Ralph reminded him he had to do some ritual bath before returning home to his wife. Which was all apart of the rules Queen Vitalia had laid down.
By the time they finished it was nearing midnight. Melchoir was sure Kira would have fallen asleep.
Kira walked out of the dressing room and looked outside and saw it was nearing midnight. She had been in the garden all day reading, eating and getting worried about Melchoir. News came that evening that they won the war but she didn't understand why Melchoir was still out. Didn't he miss her?
The atmosphere in the room was grim. She admitted she had missed his touch, his voice. Her body longed so desperately for his touch. She dawdled toward the bed and sighed deeply. Like she had told Uma earlier, the silk bed sheets were mocking and laughing at her. She was still mourning his absence when her ears caught the sound of a swish and she looked around reflexively to spot the audacious intruder.
