As I saw red mana column shoot up to sky I cursed. Why now? Nearly everyone were exhausted and many were wounded. We weren't equipped to deal with this shit right now!
"I fucking jinxed it!"
Red mana. While humans also could have red mana, I was nearly hundred percent sure that this guy was a vampire. Tone of the red was different. I don't know how to explain. It was something I gained when I became a vampire.
"What the hell!"
"Another monster?"
Even others could see it. But only I was able to understand what it meant. An invitation. To me.
"Captain. There are around 30 monsters left. No more is coming. Can I ask you something?"
Jonathan looked tired. He looked at me questioning eyes.
"I will be moving towards that column. Alone. Please don't come after me. That's something I need to take care of myself."
A vampire for a vampire. I didn't know how strong that vampire were. Yet, I had to do it myself. Enough people died this night. I also couldn't reveal my identity.
"1 hour. You kill whatever that thing is in hour. After that I will personally come."
I nodded.
"Your aim saved a lot people today. We are just humans and we can't save everyone. Don't let it weight you down."
We are just humans, huh? It gave me a bittersweet feeling.
"I will keep it in mind."
I walked forward. Some people looked at me. They probably wondering what I was doing.
"Moody? Where are you going?"
She was still alive and conscious. I thought someone like here would at least collapse due exhaustion. Maybe she was better than I thought. I just looked at her shook my head. I kept walking. She waved her hand and screamed after me.
"Let's meet again!"
I couldn't understand why she would want to see me again. As I kept walking people kept nodding or waving. George stood in my wave. He looked tired and was covered with wounds.
"Is that the reason why this happened?"
He asked me as he looked the direction red mana shone.
"Probably."
"Can you kill it?"
He really sounded tired. Not just his body but in his soul. It was the tone my mother used when she saw my scars. I was a tone that made me feel bad. A tone that made me feel despair. Yet, this time I was weirdly reminded of home.
"I don't know."
He slowly fell down. I held him and lay him to ground.
"Healer!"
He just shook his head.
"I am fine. Just tired. Just listen. When we fought, you looked for an opening, right? You just defended and attacked when you saw an opening. Don't do that."
His voice slowly became quieter. He was talking with last of his strength.
"Against a strong enemy, you will die before that happens. If you want an opening you have to create it. Now, go and kill that son of a bitch!"
After he told me that he just lied down. He was still breathing.
"We should go together! We just can't…"
"Let him be."
"But Captain!"
"He has his own reasons. We should rest and be ready if he fails."
I was able to join this raid team with Elizabeth's influence. I wondered what she told Jonathan's upper ups for him to have this much trust in me. Still, I was glad. I could use all of my abilities without worrying about exposing myself. I walked slowly. My eye hurt badly. I overused it. My back and arms also hurt due shooting arrows all night. Despite all I moved towards direction of the mana. I wasn't controlled by desperation or madness however. I had a plan. I pulled a small vial from my bag. It was really small. It contained several drops of red liquid. Blood. Normally, that much blood didn't really meant that much. However, this blood wasn't from a human. It was from Elizabeth Bathory, an Ancestor Vampire. My Origin.
"Where does your power comes from?"
Elizabeth asked me as she was training me.
"Training?"
"Zzzzzt! Wrong! From me!"
She proudly pointed towards herself.
"So…"
She handed me the vial.
"This is for an emergency. It is my blood. If you meet with any other vampire or werewolf, drink this. It will power you up for a short amount of time."
"Isn't it very little? Packs I drink daily is much more than this."
Elizabeth's face turned to a mischievous one. She tilted her head and exposed her neck.
"If you want more…"
"No."
She giggled.
"I am just joking. I am only giving you this little amount because if you were to drink more, your body would break down. You literally would explode."
I looked at the blood. It was a very dark shade of red.
"Also it is for an emergency. My blood is very, very, very precious. You shouldn't drink it unless it is a life or death situation."
I popped vial open. I drank it. It's taste was heavenly. I nearly lost myself due the taste. It took all of my willpower to pull myself back to reality.
"Focus."
I didn't know the intentions of the vampire. But considering it sent monsters after monsters, it wasn't anything nice. I couldn't drank it mid-combat. As Elizabeth's blood passed my throat, I felt power surging in my body. My eye didn't hurt any longer. My arms and back were back to perfect condition.
"I wondered who could be so stupid to attack my pets. As I expected, it was a no-name mongrel."
A male voice rang. It wasn't Lazarus. I was sure of it.
"Who are you?"
"Someone you can't speak so casually, mongrel!"
Why was all vampires like this? I threw a throwing knife towards darkness. My movement was so smooth that even I was suprised.
"Arghhhh! How dare you! How dare you to wound me?"
"If you were so amazing, how I did I managed to wound you? Come out of the darkness bastard. I can see you."
