Liam had been helping out as a receptionist of the guild these past few months, and he had met many newcomers like the two boys who had no other choice in life, may they be users of mana or not.
Normally, he could see that most people who were dressed this bad as if they lived in the streets for a long time cannot even read and write their name.
However, it seemed like the one this time was different.
He thought Lock was bluffing because he was embarrassed, but Liam could see that the beggar indeed can read and write as he did everything in front of him.
In fact, it even made him feel bad about himself, as he had nothing close to Lock's penmanship!
'He can write fast, and his penmanship is the best I seen so far!' Liam thought as he was stunned; as he watched Lock even do his own signature.
Before he knew it, the beggar finished the document without asking him for anything, and based on what he can see, it appeared like he knew what he was doing.
Lock talked to Chap for a while as they discussed their alias, and what to put in the form. After that, they double-checked the data he wrote on the paper and nodded.
The form just asked their basic profile including the name or alias, age, sex, and power if possible.
Lock used his own name Lock. The name Lock was not a rare name. Many people chose the kinds of name like Lock and Loki to name their newborns in this kingdom, thus he was confident of using it while also hiding his identity.
Chap on the other hand used the alias "Kidd"!
Lock did not ask why, as he did not have any worries about. He also preferred he would not use his own name so it worked out for the best. Chap's face and name was highly likely to be known to the business stall owners and the knights had even saw his face!
'It might be a good idea to buy him a mask too.' Lock thought.
After a few seconds, Lock gave the two registration forms to Liam.
[Lock] [Kidd]
[16] [14]
[Male] [Male]
[Telekinetic Magic] [N/A]
Lock decided to go for telekinetic magic only.
He can write he had two other powers, but that might raise some eyebrows and even bring them trouble. Lock enjoyed the situation he was in right now as well. So he couldn't help but relish it.
'Hiding my identity and my powers…hehe.' Lock grinned.
But it was also the right thing to do from what he thought.
Right now he does not even know what actually happened to him or if the royal palace had already learned of his disappearance. In any case, he would eventually learn the royal palace's response on his disappearance in the near future. After all, such news would certainly be revealed by news outlets sooner or later.
But for now, Lock had also decided to label himself as someone who came from a street background. He was a homeless person who had arrived in the Capital from a small village in the countryside that was so little no one cared about them or something like that.
Born of a lowly family, most of his kind even had no names.
Lock believed in his story and handed the document with absolute confidence.
From his chair, Liam double-checked the forms and stomped the guild's approval seal on it.
"So your name's Lock. The other boy's Kidd?" Liam smiled, and came out of the counter, "follow me, name's Liam. So what have you been doing all this time Lock?"
"Ummm…" The image of the stable he woke up from appeared in Lock's mind, "I'll been working on a stable in the Animal District."
"Oh? So you're an animal lover?" Liam asked.
"Why would you think that?"
"Don't mind me."
"Okay." Lock was hesitant. But he tried not to pry any further. It was not like he could get anything out of that.
After a few moments, Lock, Chap and Liam arrived at a room with a big machine on it. Liam picked some sort of round glowing mechanical item from inside the machine, and turned something on, making it brighten even further in white light.
"Have you thought of where to put your tattoos?"
All guild members had the mark of the tattoo of any guild. Thus, it was expected for any willing member to be tattooed.
"Eh? Does it hurt?" Chap finally asked, as he was worried it would hurt like hell.
Liam chuckled, and waved his hand lightly, "No, no way. This is a special magic item that was created by our own guild and it has something that cannot be replicated. So it's not an ordinary item. This is a magic item that would just put a tattoo in any part of your body as long as you consented to it."
"I see." Chap said, but he did not understand other than the part that it would not hurt.
"Well, it would be better if Lock is the first. He's older after all." Liam said.
"That makes sense. Then…I would like it on my right arm." Lock rolled the sleeves of his clothes and revealed his arm.
"Oh, I see you are more muscular than I thought." Liam commented.
Liam started to place the round magic item into it. It blinked twice, and sounded.
*Ping*
After that, Liam removed it. Lock looked at his arm—in his biceps—there was now a white tattoo of an angel!
"That was fast and it did not hurt at all." He said.
"Our guild tattoo sucks, right? If I my brother would not have joined this guild, I would have joined the Black Jaguar instead. But don't you say it to anyone that I said this okay?" Liam joked.
"Yeah." The two boys just slowly nodded.
After that, it was Chap's turn. It took a while as he never thought he would get tattoo on the age of fourteen. And he revealed he was not a fan of it. But he decided he could settle for it to be placed on his left wrist.
"Congratulations, you're now official members of the guild." Liam said.
"Thank you," the two boys said in unison.
"Okay, before you two go to sleep tonight, I need you to show you to one more place." He said.
After a few moments of walking through the hall again, they arrived at a big board full of pinned papers!
It was the quest board!
