Chereads / Lock Axe / Chapter 12 - Ranking

Chapter 12 - Ranking

While they were in front of the quest board, Liam started to speak again. He was now fully awake.

"I am Liam Machrovo, 21 years old. I'm an A-ranked wizard that has already participated in ten S-difficulty quests in my career. Right now, you two are ranked G, the lowest."

The ranking of members in guilds were divided into several ranks. The lowest were G and the highest were S-class.

"You can start doing quests now. As our member, you are required to complete at least four quests at least quarterly. Otherwise, you would suffer certain punishments."

"Eh?"

As soon as Liam heard Lock say that, he spoke gently and smiled, "That's right. The guild is required to complete quests from the citizens. They're the reason we exist, so we need to complete quests if we want the government to continue funding us and allowing us stay here."

"What if we run out of quests to get and only the high level ones are left?" Lock asked.

He just realized how grave that rule was!

"Haha," Liam chuckled, "You're paying more attention than what I expected it's funny! Haha."

"Please explain."

"Okay. Haha it's still funny All that hair on your face is funny." He was looking at Lock's face as if there was something funny about it.

If Lock could choose someone better than this receptionist, he would! But that would be rude.

After controlling himself, Liam pondered and said,

"We indeed had that time happened before when only high-level quests are left. When that happens, there's no need to go out of your way to put yourself into trouble when you're not even going to help. The guild is given a minimum number of quests quarterly depending on how many its members are. Besides, we're in the capital, quests pile up more than they're completed."

Liam grabbed a quest and looked at it while speaking.

"The quest you are limited to is also dependent on your ranks. For example, you two are currently ranked G, the lowest, so you are only able to do quests up to rank E in difficulty. If you become rank E, you can only get up to C class quests. Ranked C can only get up to A quests. Ranked A's and S are the one who could only get S class quests."

As soon as Liam stopped speaking, someone intervened from behind Lock and Chap!

"Newbies are not expected to accept quest which is impossible for them to complete." A stranger said.

The boy was called Sebastian. He had a somewhat tall frame, and green eyes to go with his sparkling green hair. It seemed like he had just arrived to pick a quest from the quest board. The thing that caught Lock's attention was how he looked to be just around the same age as Lock.

"Oh? Sebastian! You've finally came back. Did you finish the S-Difficulty already?" Liam whispered the last sentence.

"Mm." Sebastian nodded, as he started to inspect the quests in the quest board.

Sebastian was a 17 year old A-ranked wizard blessed with the power of plants. After picking a quest marked with –difficulty. He looked up Lock and Chap up and down with a curios pair of eyes.

'Beggars?' he first thought.

"Oh, right. Sebastian, these two are Lock and Chap. They're one of our newest members." Liam said.

After staring the two boys up and down, Sebastian spoke.

"I see. Then, I need to have this registered." He said as he waved the quest paper, and walked to a certain counter.

"How energetic. You're going out again right away?" Liam asked.

But Sebastian did not respond back.

"That Sebastian. He should at least speak." Liam said.

"Who is that?" Chap asked.

Liam saw Chap looking at him from below and explained.

"Sebastian Roma. He just awakened the power of plants with the harvest stage last year and had become an A-ranked wizard of our guild just recently. He's our best rookie." Liam dramatically praised.

"Is he stronger than you?" Chap was curious so he asked.

Liam definitely did not like that, as he stared Chap down and smiled creepily.

"Young fellow, it's not right to ask that question." He said without erasing the creepy smile on his face.

It seemed to worked well, as Chap instantly went silent as his eyes looked at the floor.

'I almost forgot, but wizards are really scary.' Chap thought, hiding at the back of Lock.

"Well, I don't know if who's stronger than us, but Sebastian is really strong. He's one of the youngest talents this guild is blessed to have. Umm…I can't think of anything to say to you anym—"

Chap and Lock thought he was going to finally leave them alone, but he suddenly spotted someone at a certain table in the dining area!

"Hmm. That's right. It's important to know that even if you can use magic, you're the strongest. Some people are smarter, and even naturally blessed with strength and agility. Some examples are the beast folk, dwarves, and the elves. They are prime examples of someone who does not need magic to be necessarily strong."

Looking around, Liam started to point certain people inside the guild allowing Lock and Chap to single them out. There were indeed witches, beast folk, elves, and dwarves!

Just then, Liam used his index finger to point at someone who was looking down and observing the crowd from the second floor.

"Hosen Night."

Hosen Knight was a very muscular middle-aged man with a wide frame and bearded face. It was said that he was capable of stopping wildebeests during a stampede in the jungle. He was an S-class warrior of the guild. Even from far away, his muscles were rippling from his attire.

"That man is an anomaly. He was not blessed with any magic potential, but he was loved by the Gods." Liam said.

"I heard about him, everyone was saying he was like the third prince of the royal family." Chap couldn't help but intervene as he spoke from behind Lock.

"That's right. There are many anomalies in this world even if you are not a wizard." Liam said with the pupils of eyes shaking.

Kara looked at Liam, and it appeared like he was afraid.

"Third Prince Lock Illustrious Letters." Liam suddenly spoke Lock's real name.

Lock almost thought he was calling him with his full name! But he quickly realized the topic of the conversation.

"What about him?" Lock asked.

Liam smiled this time, and shrugged his shoulders, as they headed to the quest board again, "That's right. I just heard something interesting about him. They said he did not awaken anything in his awakening ceremony. Damn him. It's good that he isn't perfect after all."

'…So something came out already?' Lock was happy to know anything about him. But he could not help but defend for himself.

"Perfect? Was he even trying to be perfect in the first place?" he asked.

"Wasn't he? He's born with that face, wealth, reputation, and even those extraordinary abilities. It's good that he didn't awaken any. He would just get big-headed more."

Lock cannot let that slide. His eyebrows frowned behind his great amount of hair. He stepped harder, and almost forgot Chap was holding on to him.

"What do you know about him?" Lock said grabbing Liam's right shoulder, as if he was offended by Liam's words.

"Huh? Oi, oi, young fellow, what are you getting angry about?" Liam was taken aback. But he was more stunned on how hard Lock grabbed him. Was his hand a stone?

"… Sorry," Lock removed his grip.

Looking at Lock with a different expression, Liam spoke, "I don't really care about that, but wasn't it true? It would be difficult to know what is going on in the head of someone as blessed as him."

"Is there something wrong on there?" someone from behind suddenly asked.

Lock instantly realized he just made a big mistake. People were neither mind-readers nor psychics. They were not Gods who can see everything omnisciently.

Lock then arranged his hair, as some of it had almost revealed his whole face.

Liam took a few seconds to inspect Lock's face. The hair covering his eyes all the way to his nose was still a little messy, but it had been able to show a glimpse of most of his face!

Seeing that, he couldn't help but remember the third prince's good-looking face he always saw on the television!

He unconsciously looked at Kara up and down. But after seeing his clothes and Chap with him who looked even worse, he became confused. He couldn't believe what he just saw!

"No way, I really need to sleep again." Liam muttered rubbing his eyes, and then said, "I already instructed you but you can get any quests from G to E-Difficulty. After you chose one, you go to any counter and register for taking the quest. Don't go to my counter."

After that, Liam started to yawn as he walked towards his counter again.

Lock had also calmed down. He already digested everything that Liam said. He looked at Chap and switched his sight to the quest board that was thrice as wide and tall as him.
