Believe me if I say that I don't like how things are going around me these days. I think the world wants me dead because a quite time passed since she died and everyday I am in different kinds of accident. It scared me to death every time it happens.
"Misfortune..." Boaife mumbled besides me after she saw dead snakes in front of me. The fxxk? I'm inside of my home and yet there's snakes?
"This is ridiculous."
The most logical thing to happen is that someone is trying to kill me and making it look like accidents or one of the twins adopted snakes and it got out.
"Don't worry, Wren. If you die we will mourn you." It doesn't make me feel better. Instead it made me angry.
Angry? They are talking like I'm going to die! As if I wanted to die after all I've been through?! No!
"Anyway, now that the Marchioness is dead, what will you do now?" Boaife asked me. Why is she asking me? Am I that woman's daughter?
"She meant what she said to you before your Prince came."
My Prince? That two words didn't go well to me.
"She said something about... protect yourself as she laughed hysterically," Adara said and then she gave me a rose, "maybe she jinxed you! You know there's dark wizards she hired."
"She's already dead and she still want to commit one more murder!" I exclaimed and thought of one reason as to why she targeted me to kill.
"Wren what are you doing out here?" My mom's angelic voice came behind me and the answer must be because of her.
The Marchioness regret will be not trying to make my mother suffer. That is understandable. Being the Female Lead's mother who survived her death in the early stage, someone have to try and be a villain to her.
"She wanted to walk when snakes appeared in front of her."
She looked at me with pity. She could look at me in relief rather than pity. Relief that I'm not harmed? Like that. But, pity it is.
"It must be hard, Wren. Don't worry we will check everywhere else if there's a snake and we doubled the security around the castle. For the time being don't think of going out." She says and left me.
I guess I can't meet Celestine today or tomorrow. I should write her a letter. What a shame, I've been looking forward to see her since it's been a month or two that I seen her.
I sighed as I watched birds fly away from me. It's been a week and the murder attempt on me lessen. Eventually Cervi and Adara prevents before it happened.
"You sighed like an old woman," Lane commented, "by the way I heard that you got yourself to fight Laxus' griffin."
A stretched tale. It may looked like that, but the Griffin actually wants to eat me! The twins shouldn't adopt that damn monster. Their new hobby as it seems is to adopt or collect monsters.
One day, one of their pet will be their death.
"I didn't. Don't you have classes today? Why are you here?"
He pondered for a moment before pointing me, "I got bored of the classes and I thought I would enjoy Wren's presence."
Boaife choked and Adara chuckled under her breath. Ah, he wanted to pester me too. That makes sense since he's always hanging out with the twins.
"... you will be bored out here because I don't intend to do anything." I said and watched helplessly the sky. To be honest, I don't mind not doing anything today either.
This has been my peaceful days. No Zairon for weeks, no falling into to the pranks of the twins and I escaped Yessenia's worthless topics about love.
"Hmm... do you want to play a game?" My ears perked up and I saw Lane grinned. Acckk! This happens when a beautiful face has been restored...
I've been healed.
"Scrabble." I said as soon as everything has been laid out on the table. Heh, this will be easy.
"You shouldn't underestimate him, Wren." Boaife warned me and I rolled my eyes. As if I would lose! In my past life no one ever won to me.
"W... what happened?" No, really. Earlier I had the upper hand! I'm 50 points ahead and I lose?!
"I told you not to underestimate him." Boaife added as she sigh, "Let's play another game. Chess!"
He obliged, but after thirty minutes I lose. So, I suggested another game, Checkers. This time I will not let myself be defeated!
---------------------------------------------------
"Are they playing or not?"
"They're doing a staring contest!" Yessenia exclaimed as she clapped gleefully and everyone could tell that they weren't doing staring contest.
Unfortunately, everyone wanted to check on Wren and they all gathered one by one and saw Wren and Lane concentrating on playing chess, again.
"This is their fourth match," Adara informed them and yawned while hugging Boaife on the waist, "What? And it takes them thirty minutes to finish?"
"Yes, it's been two hours since they played." Azi was left dumbfounded and an exhilarating feeling is surging up.
His eyes were gleaming, he also wanted to play with one of them. Astreia and Yessenia were both easy to defeat and he often sighs in annoyance.
"No!!!" Wren suddenly shouts as her king fall down the board.
"I had fun." Lane smiled and even though he's pretty, Wren's anger didn't disappear. "I knew you came to annoy me!!" She said and ran from her room, unaware of the audience behind her.
Lane was surprised at her actions and yet he let her be. After all, his purpose in coming in her room was to make her do something other than to stare at the damn sky and get her out of her room.
Though... "I overdid it."
He intends to let Wren win on the third and fourth match, but his mind did otherwise. "You liked her, don't you?"
"Who...?" Lane asked, he knows who's she's talking about.
"You know... Wr--uumph??"
Yessenia glanced behind her and saw Aria holding her while shooting her glares, "keep it to yourself first."
Sensing that she's not in the mood to hear anything made Yessenia to nod in submission. "There you are Lane! Teacher is looking for you,"
Lane nodded and left the room while everyone turned to Yessenia, "Must you ask everyone about love?" Azi couldn't help but to feel embarassed by her sister.
He should be used to her, however, it happens frequently ever since Euphrasia came home that he developed disgust to that question.
"It's weird to see a Vacarella invested in these kind of things." As time passed Boaife realized that some Vacarella were different from their parents and ancestors, like Yessenia.
"I only asked because..."
"Anyway, is it alright for Wren to be alone?" Azi didn't let Yessenia answer him, receiving a loud slap behind his head. "It's fine. Cervi's with her."
Knowing Wren she will be at a nearby tree to vent out her frustration after losing four times today and Cervi will join her as a form of training. It's like picking a fight with a tree except that the tree won't retaliate.
"The thing you said at the prison, what is it?" The Duke asked as soon as the door opened and there was Lexus in deep thoughts as he ate one cookie on the table.
"We are still not sure what it is, but we think it was a lower rank demon." The pen snapped in half as his eyes darted over his nephew.
It wasn't long before the Marchioness died and there's still no clue about the attack from two years ago. "tell me as soon as you verified what it is."
He nods at his uncle and then he opens his mouth again, causing the duke to have a startled expression across his face, "It also said something before I killed it. Prince Asterion and I share the same idea upon hearing what it said."
He relayed everything it said and how come they came to the conclusion that it meant Wren. However, when the Duke heard this he only thought about how he could make Wren stronger instead of hiding away from all of these.
Perhaps going to the academy is the better option and also... "You may go. For the time being don't tell your brother or your cousins."
He grimaced under his hood and hissed, "I'm not like Laxus. Anyway Uncle, I can help Wren in to improve her magic. I'm on par with Prince Asterion as of now."
It wasn't a lie. Every time Asterion learns a new spell or knowledge, he also follows soon after. But helping Wren he also had another reason. He still won't give up on having valuable research.
"You can do that. I'll inform her later at dinner." That was a fast decision, but he still got what he wanted.
"I what?" Wren asked again and everyone looked at the Duke then to Lexus. "I said, you will train magic with Lexus."
She scoffed and still can't believe that decision, "Or do you want me to call Galan or Prince Asterion to help you in your magic? Or maybe Caesar"
Just by thinking about it makes her stomach tremble. Duke Aurea's last training with her was nothing much and Prince Asterion might as well tease her non-stop. Caesar is, well, kind of not holding back and might ask her to do some impossible task.
"Fine."
"You don't have to worry because Yessenia will also train alongside with you." The girl whitens and had different emotions within her.
"Why?"
"Because you have to."
Short and resolute answer as if telling her not to question and just accept it. Mavis smiled while Azi grinned because finally, his older sister's mind will be occupied by additional knowledge and she be will tired after training that she won't ask or think anymore about romance stuff.
"That's great sister. Next year you will also be with each other that I'm worried if you can survive," Yessenia pouts and said, "What's that supposed to mean?!"
"He meant that you might cause trouble to other students." Wren answers and she already pictured it in her mind.
Somehow, her carefree days slipped away as her training with Lexus happened. Everyday has become terribly... annoying. Oh, how she wished she could wipe Lexus' annoying smirk aftee their training.
Thankfully, the training made her mana concentration and output more easier and fast. He was a good teacher that she wonders if getting her blood has some connection to it?
"I can't. I don't want to train anymore!" Yessenia wailed as she covered her face with Pillows. Unexpectedly, Yessenia is a fast learner and she can easily cast a spell without losing concentration.
"Me too, my body are sored,"
"I can't feel my legs,"
"I want to do one more round of training, master."
Wren rolled her eyes at her three spirits. Lexus also trains them on how to use their unique magic effectively, except Yessenia since hers was a taboo.
"I also want to practice my unique magic," Yessenia pouts and stares at Wren, "Right. Lexus told us we can name our unique magic."
Wren's unique magic name is simple, 'Summoner'. While Yessenia's final name to it was 'Hour Glass'. Both don't want to think so hard to make a wonderful name for it
"Young Lady Wren, Young Lady Bates is already here." Wren suddenly jolts and had to change immediately. She completely forgotten that today is Celestine's visit since she's not allowed to go out.
"Boaife! Help me!"
After moments passed both girls are having a lovely time, "Are you doing fine? Your letter says you have been always met with strange accidents."
"Yes. On the way here I encoutered one, I slipped and almost fell down the stairs. Luckily my knight caught me."
To be fair, Cervi flew right after she slipped.
"Good thing, I was worried when I read your letter. Oh, here I bought it for you." Celestine smiled and a perfectly wrapped gift were presented in front of Wren.
"You don't have to, but thank you!"
She opened it and saw a book. Book about philosophy. Unexpected. She thought it could be a box of chocolates.
"I heard you're going to the Academy next year so I bought one for you!"
She wanted to buy all of the book subjects, however, Celestine thought that it will be heavy. But, Wren was happy that it was only one book despite its about philosophy. Wren already had enough with Patrice's and the Duchess' books.
She's still glad thay she gifted her as it was the first gift from a friend. "I will also be attending next school year."
Wren's eyes lit up and clasped her hands with hers, "we should be classmates!"
If Celestine were with her she knows for sure that she will have fun in the Academy. "We can... hopefully."
"Don't worry, I believe we will be classmates," Wren giggled, "That will be a lot of fun."
Somehow, Celestine reminded her of her one friend in the past. That must be the reason why she's already close with her.
"You won't be sure about that since Johana and the others might also be there." Celestine says and Wren boos at the mention of Johana, "I doubt that. She wouldn't want to learn about magic based on her look."
That's true because Johana's interest was about fashion and gossips. Hardly there's any interest about magic.
"Mmm... who knows." Celestine let out a grin, "She might follow you at the academy."
Five seasons passed and new school year approached as every students walked through the gates. Every single one of them holds different emotions and goals.
One stands out the most. "I want to graduate fast."
Wren Vacarella is now in middle school.
