Chapter 30 - Feelings

Lilly was fuming mad when she entered Matthew's house. She couldn't believe how her friends reacted to the news of her marriage. She was expecting them to be angry for lying to them and keeping things under the wrap of secrecy, however, it never came to mind that they would think that she was being an ungrateful, privileged bitch for complaining about marrying Matthew.

She heaved a deep sigh and threw her purse on the console table in the hallway only to grab it back because this wasn't her house and she had no idea if Matthew would like to see her stuff lying around his house.

"You're back early," he said, clearing his throat.

He saw Lilly from the kitchen window and the way she strode and how her arms swayed on either side and with how stiff her shoulders were, he could tell that she was royally pissed over something.

He observed her as she entered the house. He wondered what made her so angry.

Lilly jumped a little, startled by Matthew's voice. She didn't expect him to be home so early. She asked him this morning if they could talk but he said he would be busy at work and they would just talk in the evening.

It was only a quarter to three and he was already home. She tilted her head to the side and drew in the fact that he was already wearing lounge pants and a white shirt. He was holding a glass of water and looked so damn good that she momentarily forgot her annoyance over her close-minded friends.

"There wasn't a lot to discuss," she said in a bored tone. She has no plan to talk to Matthew about her friends. Especially the way Susan's eyes blinked and showed visible hurt that she married Matthew as if she stole him from her!

"Uhm," Matthew raised his brow and squinted his eyes on Lilly. He wondered how she could look pretty with her face crumpled in sheer annoyance. "How about us? You wanted to talk, right?"

Lilly stood still and stared at Matthew. She didn't expect him to come home early just because she told him that she wanted to talk. A warm feeling enveloped her and somehow made her feel better.

"Yes, I'd like us to talk about…" She heaved a deep sigh and smiled awkwardly at her husband. She was so focused on her annoyance with her friends that she was caught off guard by Matthew's unexpected presence at home.

"Would you like to talk in the garden?" He looked at her and saw the slight panic in the way her lips curved.

"I'll prepare something while you change. Just step out in the garden," he cocked his head to the side, indicating the kitchen door that would lead her to the garden.

Lilly nodded and headed to her room to wash up and change her clothes while Matthew prepared something to drink and a grilled cheese sandwich.

He carried everything to the garden and laid the snack on the table. He got on his phone to answer some emails while he waited for Lilly.

He was so engrossed with work that he didn't notice Lilly approaching the table. He just noticed her presence when he smelled a soft flowery scent and a shadow from the corner of his eyes. He looked up from his phone screen and swallowed painfully.

Lilly is wearing a white house dress with a small yellow daisies print. The said dress has thin straps, showing her delectable collar bone and the mould of her breasts was visible on the soft fabric that clung to her body, exposing her beautiful curves.

"Is this for me?" She asked, eyeing the cheese sandwich on the sandwich plate.

Matthew who was lost for words grunted and nodded his reply. He turned back his attention to his phone to stop himself from grabbing Lilly's arm and pulling her to his lap. Speaking of his lap, he crossed his legs to hide the visible changes in his crotch.

"Have a seat and eat."

Lilly didn't reply and sat down. Her eyes were glued to the plate of appetizing grilled cheese. She suddenly felt hungry when she saw the grilled cheese that Matthew prepared. She wasn't able to eat this morning because she was too anxious about the reaction of her friends to her confession.

And with what happened at Tiffany's house, there was no opportunity to eat at all, thus, her stomach grumbled the moment her eyes laid on the grilled cheese on the garden table or it could be because Matthew prepared it for her.

She swallowed a naughty grin and picked up the grilled cheese and took a bite.

"Hmm…ngghh…so good!" She pulled the cheese that got stuck on her fingers and licked them.

Matthew's jaw cracked with how much force he had to exert to stop himself from attacking Lilly when she started licking her finger with much gusto.

"Did you not eat?"

Lilly's head snapped in Matthew's direction with her thumb still inside her mouth. She crocked her brow at him with the harshness of his tone and how his thick eyebrows furrowed with disapproval.

She licked her thumb one more time before she picked up her napkin and wiped her hands.

"I had a light breakfast but forgot to have my lunch." She knitted her brows with the lies that came out of her mouth. She didn't eat breakfast at all. The cup of black coffee that she had in the morning could not be considered a light breakfast and she didn't forget to have lunch. She didn't have the opportunity to eat because of the confrontation that she had with her friends.

She lied to Matthew because when she saw the disapproval on his face, an unexplainable emotion of not wanting to disappoint him washed over her, thus, she could not stop herself, she told him a lie.

It wasn't a bad lie or anything. She just didn't want him to get mad at her because she didn't eat breakfast and lunch. Why she doesn't want to disappoint him is something she doesn't understand.
