Chapter 7 - A Blame Taker

Chatrian walked into Mr. Karl's office with her six inch stiletto making her entrance known to him.

She walked into the beautiful office which had great lighting and an amazing view of the natural fountains in Hoboran.

Mr. Karl was standing and facing the floor to ceiling windows, and was staring admiringly at the view outside. "if it isn't Chatrian Vald, then my day has been ruined." He said as he turned around to face the troubled Chatrain.

"What's going on?" Chatrian asked impatiently.

"I should be asking you the same. What has gotten you so bottled up?" Mr. Karl asked Chatrian.

"A whole lot of bullshit, Karl." She said as she collapsed on a grey colored couch.

"Care to share?" He asked as he drew a basket woven chair forward and sat down, facing Chatrian directly.

"It's obviously about a messed up mission." She said in a high tone.

"Calm down, Chatrian!" Karl said. "Of course I've heard about it."

"You have?" Chatrian asked in shock. "How? It's been less than twelve hours since the rubbish occurred, how can you say you know about it?"

Karl rose up and walked to his office desk. He picked up a paper from the desk and handed it over to Chatrian. "Because It's all over the news."

"Impossible!!" Chatrian said denyingly as she stared in horror at the newspaper. The story about the mission was the main headline, to the dismay of Chatrian who had planned earlier to keep this as a secret.

"Damn it! I'm finished, Karl." She said as she flung the paper away.

"Don't say that, Chatrian." Karl said, supportively.

Chatrain rose up from the couch and began pacing Karl's office, making occasional exclamations.

She finally stopped and walked towards Karl who had tried to comfort her. "Let me guess, the purpose of the meeting is about it this crap, huh?"

Karl rose up. "Yes, Chatrian."

"So… Am I going to get kicked out?" Chatrian asked with a red and slightly swollen face.

To Chatrian's surprise, Karl began laughing uncontrollably.

"I'm sorry did I miss the joke?" Chatrian asked in annoyance.

"I'm sorry… I'm really sorry, I just couldn't hold it back in." He successfully stopped his laughter. "But on a more serious tone, Chatrian, how can you possibly say something as ridiculous as that? Do you think the council will just kick you out for something like that?"

She began to talk but stopped midway. "I-i-don't know."

"For a pretty lady like yourself, you should be aware that frowning isn't good for your face."

"This isn't the time to flatter me, Karl. I need your help… I really do."

"And you know that you don't need to ask before I help you. You're like a sister to me, Chatrain." He said as he walked over to her and patted her shoulder.

"So what do we do?"Chatrain asked.

"Easy." Karl said as he walked back to his office chair. "All the council wants is a head to put the blame on, so what we do is find them someone to fill up your space."

"What do you mean?" Chatrain asked.

"We have to find someone to put the blame on. With that your name would be cleared off and the suggested person who carry all the blame."

A faint smile appeared on Chatrain's face as she thought for a while. "This is a perfect idea."

"Of course it is. So, you have to find a name, advisably someone with a high post." Karl added

Chatrain's smile broadened. "No need to look too much, I already have a name."

"Who?"

"That bastard." She said with her eyes flaring with hatred.

"And who is that?"

"Colonel Mark Augustus!" She said with a sneer.

"The head of the field agency?" Karl asked.

"Yeah."

"That's a perfect blame taker."
