Iris sat on her bed gasping for air. She had a nightmare about someone getting beheaded, her whole body shook with horror as she recalled the nightmare. Her head hurt and those weird blurry images flickered in her mind.
She got up from the bed and went towards the window. Her father said that her room was being reorganized, so she had to stay back in the guest room. As the room was on the ground floor, she easily climbed out of the window covering herself with a shawl.
Her toes curled against the grass as she landed on the ground with her barefoot. She looked up at the night sky and sighed. Everything felt so confusing, this life in Kenworthy duchy felt unfamiliar for her. Her parents and elder brother loved her, but she was missing something....or someone. Wait! someone? She came out of her thoughts when she heard rough breathing.
Cassian stared at her with his blue wolf eyes and got up from the ground. Iris widened her eyes seeing a gigantic wolf under the moonlight. As he took a step forward, she retreated.
"Grrr" he growled impatiently as he noticed her avoiding him. And that made Iris freeze on her spot, she didn't dare to make a move and just observed as the wolf got near her.
His blue eyes were pulling her towards him and it made her unable to move. The wolf nudged his head against her legs making her yelp, "Please don't eat me!" her voice was raised a few octaves making Cassian grin.
He continued nudging against her to see more of her reactions. How could he hurt her? She was his mate, the one destined for him and only him.
Iris slowly opened her eyes when she realized that the wolf was not harming her. She hesitantly stretched her hand towards his head and caressed his face making him purr, her anxiety vanished the second he purred, "Are you sure that you are not a big cat instead of a wolf?" she asked laughing as he sulked. He didn't like his mate calling him a cat, he was a mighty wolf, a dominant Alpha but her caressing felt so good that he purred once again becoming entertainment for his mate.
She sat down on the ground completely forgetting about her previous fear and continued conversing with him, "Hey cutie pie, what are you doing inside my garden? Are you perhaps being raised by someone?" she was not sure because her memories were gone, what if her father raised him?
Cassian felt like rolling his eyes, who could raise a huge wolf-like him? He felt that his mate was little silly, but she was cute this way and he liked it. He shook his head vigorously and Iris nodded her head, "So you are a wild wolf, But why are you so tame?"
He blinked his big blue eyes at her question and remained silent. He was not tame, he was just acting like this in front of her, and maybe that wolfsbane.....Wait! Why was he not feeling the effect of wolfsbane? 'It is because of our mate dummy' his wolf snickered inside his mind, 'She has a fire attribute'
Cassian looked up to his mate's lovely face and frowned, 'But I don't feel anything different from her'
'It's because she has never used her powers before' his wolf cleared his doubt but another question rose about her reason for not using her powers. And the ones to have fire attribute in the entire Findara empire were the duchy of Kenworthy, Cassian stared at Iris's face, that silver hair looked somewhat familiar.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Iris asked chuckling, "Did you change your mind and want to eat me now?"
Cassian stopped his thoughts and squinted his eyes at his silly mate. She was smiling brightly at him and it made his heart race, he wanted to confirm her identity but could not do it in his wolf form, and she would freak out if he suddenly turned into his human form.
But his sweet mate didn't disappoint him as she uttered her name, "My name is Iris" she scratched his neck as she continued, "Can I call you Mr.Wolf?"
Cassian sighed after confirming her identity but frowned hearing her choice of name for him, She didn't care about his displeasure and continued to chatter, "Mr wolf, I was very sad earlier before meeting you here in the garden"
He listened attentively as she continued, "I was very injured when I woke up a week ago, my father said that I fell off of a horse and injured myself but you know what? I think it is more than that" he frowned and scooted towards her and she clasped her hands around his head, "All of my memories were gone when I woke up, I didn't even remember my name. I feel unsettled and nervous, I don't know what to do"
The concerns that she bottled up came out as she cried her eyes out, "I miss something and I don't know what it is"
Cassian's wolf whined inside his head seeing his mate cry and he felt his heartbreak seeing her tear-stricken face. He nudged his head on her face trying to console her.
Iris smiled and kissed his face making him freeze, "Thank you for listening to me"
Suddenly the sky rumbled as it got covered with dark clouds. Iris got up from the ground and glanced at him, "Let us go inside before it starts raining"
Cassian followed after her and looked at her jumping across the window. She turned towards him and extended her hands, "Come on, I'll catch you"
He jumped up the window and landed in her arms knocking her down in the process. She rubbed her back and got up from the ground, "You are too big Mr.wolf, don't do that again"
Cassian just ignored her words and strode towards his mate's bed and slumped on it leaving her baffled, "Look at you being shamelessly comfortable on my bed"
He scooted to the side of the bed gesturing her to lay on the space beside him. Iris pouted and got on the bed then grumbled, "Good night Mr.wolf"
Cassian was over the moon lying beside his mate. He closed the distance between them and put his paw on her shoulders. He for the first time slept without any worries and Iris slept without her nightmares. Two souls found comfort from each other forgetting the future calamity they had to face.
