If there is one thing I am certain of in life, and I mean really certain, it's that I do not like Mondays. God I hate Mondays. It's the only day of the week I can't enjoy. There is nothing to like about it. It isn't just because of the common "I hate Mondays" trope alright, I have an actual reason. Every other day of the week is better. Tuesdays I go to tennis practice, Wednesdays are when my favorite show gets new episodes, and Thursdays…
"Hey Devon! Wait for me!" I heard the voice but I couldn't see the speaker.
"Aidan?" What does he want? He has a gym bag with him so maybe he's just saying hello on his way to practice for whatever sport he plays.
"Yeah it's me. I saw your beanie from down the hall. I gotta say the gray suits you." I didn't think I looked that good but it was really nice hearing that.
"Thanks. I saw it in my closet so I put it on. Luckily no teacher told me to take it off."
I really can't believe this guy is talking to me like this. I mean yeah we talked a bit during class and lunch but I didn't think we were this close yet. Why would somebody as popular as him be talking to me?
"Are you busy right now? Now after school I mean." Why does he want to know?
"Not really. Just waiting to get picked up. Did you need something?"
"Yeah I was wondering if you could help me study for the test in math. I saw you got a one hundred on the quiz so I figured you must be smart."
"The test isn't for another couple weeks. How much do you need to study?"
"A lot. I got an F on the quiz so I can use as much help as I can get."
I didn't take Aidan for an idiot. Well maybe he just didn't understand the lesson but still I figured he'd be smarter. He carries himself with a level of confidence a stupid person wouldn't have. Thought I guess he can't be that dumb if he's trying to get help. Honestly it's flattering he chose me to help him. Kind of nice knowing he thinks I'm that smart.
"Yeah I guess I can help you study. Do you wanna have study sessions during lunch or something?"
"I was thinking more afterschool, and I'm really busy most of the week so can we maybe just do it every Monday?"
"That works. I can't today but definitely next week." Well look at that. I now have something to do on Mondays.
"Thank you so much man. Well I gotta go now so see you tomorrow Devon."
"Later Aidan."
I don't know why but this feels very significant. Like the beginning of a great adventure or something. Maybe we'll become friends. It'd be nice to have some of those. All things considered, maybe Mondays won't be so bad after all.
