Chapter 2 - The Moonlight

The sun had set early. However, Lavelle was still sitting on the porch of her cabin. A bit drunk. She mumbled, babbled, and cursed at her annoying father. She could not see what was in front of her clearly. The sound of the utensils from the kitchen was still audible, clearly indicating that Daniela was still cooking their dinner.

"It's so cold outside. Come on in. You're still sick but forcing yourself to get drunk." Mark prepared to lift Lavelle's body at that moment.

"I still want to stay here," growled Lavelle, half-drunk. Even her eyes were almost tightly shut.

"Oh my gosh! You're so drunk, don't insist on sitting outside," Mark complained.

"I'm not drunk. I just drank a glass of wine. You're exaggerating," Lavelle laughed.

Mark screamed and tried to lift Lavelle's body slowly. However, the sexy girl rebelled in annoyance. Lavelle growled in pain, hitting Mark's shoulder with full force. From behind, Daniela appeared, bringing Lavelle a glass of warm water. Mark looked pretty tormented all day after taking of Lavelle since their escape from the hospital hours ago.

"Rest when you're tired. I'll take care of Lavelle." Daniela forced Lavelle to take a sip of the warm water little by little.

"I thought I would stay here too, and I already told my family at home."

"Yeah, I think it's the right choice because the whole street is dark. No lights are turned on. You can sleep in the master bedroom if you want," Daniela replied.

Suddenly Lavelle burst out laughing. "Turns out you're a coward! It's useless being a man!"

"Lavelle, please watch your drunken behavior. You owe Mark all this time," said Daniela.

"Drunk or not, she's just annoying," Mark grumbled.

"I'm sorry, she's a little weird. It would be best if we helped her move into the room now. The air outside is not good for a sick person like her." Daniela folded her arms across her chest.

Mark nodded, then slowly lifted Lavelle's lower body while Daniela tried to lift the latter's upper body. They brought Lavelle to the cabin with the strategy and put her in a cubicle with a comfortable bed. Daniela covered Lavelle's body and did not forget to turn on the electric mosquito repellent that was attached to the wall.

"Is she sleeping?" asked Mark.

"I think so. Even though she looks powerful, she is still recovering," said Daniela.

"Daniela, is Lavelle a lesbian? Why does she hate her father so much?" asked Mark out of the blue.

"Maybe because of how that old man treated her? She despises her father's treatment all this time. He always compares Lavelle with other people. You would understand how it is to be in Lavelle's shoes if your parents liked other people's children more than you."

"Oh my, what actually happened to her?" Mark asked again.

"I can't put it into words, Wantemalon."

Lavelle squirmed when she heard a loud noise from outside the cabin. She was not one-hundred-percent conscious yet. Her head hurt like hell, like she had been hit by a baseball bat.

"Daniela, what are you doing outside? Why is it so noisy?" Lavelle asked quietly, barely audibly. She did not get an answer from her friend or from Mark.

Slowly but sure, Lavelle reached for her cell phone lying on the nightstand. She yawned when she realized that it was still twelve o'clock at midnight. Lavelle scratched her head in confusion.

"You idiot making a mess in the middle of the night like this," Lavelle grumbled as she opened her blanket. Slightly loosening her joints, which were stiff from sleeping too much, she chuckled in annoyance for a moment. She made her way to the balcony of the cubicle.

The door to the balcony is made of bullet-proof glass. Lavelle and Daniela deliberately designed the cabin as safe as possible because it was far from residential areas and in the middle of the wilderness. Like usual, the faint lights dimmed within the cabin. Lavelle looked up to the sky, which seemed clear at that time. Lavelle understood immediately that today was the fifteenth. The time when the moon would appear perfectly round, with a bright light shining through all directions.

"There's nothing outside. Where was the sound coming from?" thought Lavelle. Feeling curious, she rushed out of her room into the living room, which was right in front of it.

She was a bit taken aback when she saw Mark sleeping soundly on his stomach and his mouth slightly open. Beside him, there was Daniela, who slept in a curled-up position like a lazy baby elephant. The television was still on at the time, much to Lavelle's dismay. The silence was once again being disturbed. Now a loud noise was coming from the roof. Something had fallen.

Mark fell on his stomach at that point, still half awake, when the electricity power suddenly went off.

"What the hell?" asked Mark.

"Why did the power suddenly go out?" Lavelle asked in a trembling voice.

Mark turned on his cellphone's flashlight and woke the sound-asleep Daniela. Daniela woke up groaning a little, looking very tired from working all day.

"Why did the power go out?" asked Daniela.

"I don't know, and maybe you forgot to put the gas into the generator," Lavelle said.

"We don't use a generator. We connect the electricity from a transmitter across the lake." Daniela walked over to Mark's cell phone and looked out the window.

"This rarely happens. How come the power suddenly goes off like this!" Daniela still couldn't believe it.

"I heard a voice from above. What was that sound?" Mark asked Lavelle.

"You think I know what that sound was?" asked Lavelle in a displeased tone.

"No, don't fight here! We'd better see what caused the power outage," suggested Daniela.

Lavelle took a deep breath. "What else can we do other than see what happens?" Lavelle walked up the stairs to the cabin roof accompanied by Mark and Daniela, who were in the back. Without waiting any longer, she opened the ceiling cover and glanced at the tiles that were cracked for some reason. Lavelle's attention was distracted when she caught a glimpse of a black shadow in the corner of the room.

"Nothing strange, no broken wires either. Why did it go off all of a sudden?" asked Mark.

"I think there is a problem with the power plant across the lake," said Daniela.

"There's no way we can sleep in complete darkness like this," Lavelle said.

A second later, the electricity flashed without warning. Everyone was shocked. Mark checked around the room, then shrugged his shoulders, slightly taken aback by what had happened. A loud growl sounded very close at the very moment. Daniela furrowed her brows in amazement, and so did Lavelle and Mark.

"Are you sure there are wolves around this cabin?" asked Mark.

"Wantemalon, you are the only male here. Please don't act like you're a girl like us!" Lavelle said.

"Damn, I'm scared of this kind of thing!" said Mark.
