Chapter 2 - II - Presenting

INGRID

We are greeted by a young man I'm full guard uniform so I present him with the summoning scroll and he leads us to the Royal Courts Chambers.

We walk into a dimly lit room, and once we reach the small spot light in the center, a few feet above us, all the lights turn on.

I can see feet but no faces, "Presenting to the Royal Court, The Eli Sisters," he pauses before announcing each of us and giving us enough time to bow in acknowledgement.

"Hello Eli sisters we have summoned you, do you have any clue as to why?" A man from the left side of the room speaks up.

"No we do not. From what we recall we have a year to present ourselves to the Royal Court and unless we are mistaken we still have four months left. We couldn't think of any other reason," Helia speaks firmly.

Zelena and I exchange glances as Helia sighs and adds, "except for the mermaid. Which isn't really on us. We were told we're aren't suppose to interfere with the wild and Mermaids are more wild than not. We haven't figured that one out yet to be honest," Helia speaks up.

"The mermaid?" A women on the left speaks this time, aside from it being eighteen people before us I can't figure out more about who is in front of me.

"If we recall correctly you all have mermaids as Wards. How did you aquire such a situation where gained three then lost one to begin with?"

Both Zelena and I stare daggers into the back of Helias head, "go ahead Helia tell the court how we became Wardens of Defenseless Magic," Zelena speaks up as she recalls the sleepless nights.

Helia sighs, "well your Honorable Court we all make mistakes, unfortunately for me i married mine. My now ex-husband had an affair with a mermaid who then convinced him her unborn children where his. They are not, we aren't sure who the father is, she wouldn't - couldn't say who it was," Helia finishes nonchalantly.

"Ari the mother skipped four hours after giving birth, to the triplets twice as long as my Ex. They were born on our family heads land and we seems bet fit to care since they aren't ordinary orphans. That was a year ago. They are about the physical age of three year olds. And six weeks ago during a trip to the ocean Iris the second born daughter jumped into the ocean to swim with the dolphin and the they disappeared. We waiting for a week before the girls told us she Iris wasn't going to come back. They able to communicate with one another. So we came back," I finish explaining the situation.

"In our defense there is no book or guide to raising mermaids. No one knows anything about Oceanic creatures also we weren't Guardians yet when we got the girls so we had a lot to shuffle, two out of three isn't bad," Zelena offers.

"Well considering no known Lander has raised a mermaid I would agree two out of three is indeed not bad," another voice from the Left speaks, this one sounds older, more deep than the first male voice.

"So why has the Court summoned us?" Helia questions.

"The Court has a need of your Wardening Services. A young noblemen with extraordinary Fire Magic is having difficulty controling his affinities and we were hoping you're knowledge and experience of Elemental Magic could help him learn how to gain control and master his own magic." A women from the right speaks up.

We begin questioning the age of the ward, his magical needs and advantages as well as time frames they'd want his training to be and when we be able to properly house him.

"Four to six weeks should be a good time frame to get a place for the ward," Helia confirms after we read the end of negotiations.

"Well Eli sisters our business has concluded. We appreciate your timely arrival and look forward to your Awakening Introduction Summoning," an elder women from the center speaks this time.

"Wait we still have to come? This doesn't count?" Laughter fills the room from Zelenas questions.

"No, this meeting has been to unformal. We have not reviewed much of your career history or your magical statuses. I suppose I'm willing to ask when will you do your Awakening Introductions?" She questions us.

"At the end of the year. To showcase the work of training our magic throughout the first year of coming into our abilities. Do others go at other times?" I question the Royal Court.

"Yes most come at the beginning of their Magical Manifestations," he pauses, "then again most families are bound by an Age of Awakening and present whenever they or their parents find it fitting.

We thank them for their time and we are allowed to leave.
