"Take me back." It was a demand.
"There was a wild animal in the Keeping, Amour. I could not leave you there. It was not safe. Would you 'ave preferred being all alone with a hostile animal?"
"An animal . . . ?" She instinctively reached for her neck. She couldn't feel anything on her skin, yet she was burning up along with the inside of her neck. Like she had been bitten and the wound was pulsing with fever. For a split second, she could even hear chanting and music. Then it faded along with any heat she had felt on her skin. She took in a breath, trying to shake off the feeling.
Absently, she noticed that he'd called her another pet name. Raising her eyebrow and tightening her lips, she turned on her heel and stormed off in the other direction.
