Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Condition.

"Alright Mr Garrett you seem as healthy as an ox. Which is interesting considering you died for a few minutes while you were in a coma." The doctor spoke as he observed my test results. "But there seems to be a glaring issue, Mr Garrett. Your mana levels seem to be extremely low, almost as if your entire network was reset." The doctor was looking at me as I sat up on the bed in my room in the hospital.

My ears immediately perked up at the mention of mana. This wasn't the first time I heard that phrase. It appeared a lot during that memory dump I experienced but it was still a bit surreal to hear it being confirmed from the doctor's lips. There was mana in this world. And from the doctor's tone of voice, it was a very common thing found in this world. I should really find time to explore this mana.

"Mr Garrett, are you still there." I was broken out of my thought process by someone calling out my supposed name. It was still quite disorienting, being called by some else's name and you being expected to answer. But sadly that's how reincarnation works, so sadly I had to get over it. I looked up at the doctor who was looking at me with a worried gaze.

I raised an eyebrow at this look he was giving me. Was my mana network being reset such a bad thing "Pardon my question doctor, but is my mana network something to be worried about?"

"Well in some instances it's not a bad thing, For example, an F class resetting his mana because his art didn't suit him or it had some adverse effects on his body. But in your case it's different. You see, you were a Class B at the young age of 20, which is remarkable might I add, but I'm digressing. You see your mana pool as a Class B fighter was quite large, so your mana resetting was rather detrimental as all the hard work you put into training and al the progress you've gained have all basically went up in smoke. Due to potential degradation that would occur overtime as you age I'm afraid it will be considered if you make it past D rank, and that is just the highest possible estimate."

My mind was busy running on overdrive, questions filling my head at various points during his explanation. What was an art? What was potential degradation? What's this I hear about Classes? I couldn't even understand most of this and I had to sit here like I understood all that he spoke about like it was common sense to a person like me. I let out a sigh, "Ok doc, I understand, when can I be discharged. And is there anything you can recommend I do since I obviously can't go back to being a hero."

"You can be discharged within the next 3 days, apart from the man a reset you are quite healthy for someone who just woke up. About the other question I might have a solution. You see, Heroic Academy has an opening, they are looking for a new teacher for their class F. It's not that hard of a job considering that they are the worst students in the entire school. So they should be relatively easy to handle."

"But isn't that just wrong, I know next to nothing about teaching. Shouldn't they get a professional for that?"

"It's either that or the janitor job they have open at the school. Your pick. Class F is the worst class there is in the school. The students in that class almost have no hope of graduating and becoming heroes. All you have to do is basically babysit them for half a day until they head home. I doubt you need much experience in that. It's basically free money. And judging by how long you've been here, which is 6 months by the way, you're going to need it."

I sighed knowing he was right. My hospital bill should be over the roof by now. And I'm not sure I even have a place to stay. So I'm effectively on my last limb here. But I guess I should take it one step at a time. And I'm sure the first step should be getting a job first I guess.

And so with a reluctant sigh, I accepted the proposal of the Doctor who got me in touch with the principal through a phone call, it would appear as if they were old friends but I'm not one to judge. The principal seemed a bit too eager to accept me for the position .Oh well its free money so who am I to refuse. So with that I lay back down on my bed. It would appear I would a lot of planning to get my new life on track.

I stood at the entrance of the hospital waiting for a taxi to come get me and help me move to my new place. I found that I owned a house right in the Western District of the city, so as I waited I read up on the city on my phone. The city of Grastia was huge. So much to do, so much to learn. The possibilities were indeed endless.
