Chapter 3 - CHAPTER 3: HISTORY LESSON AND HOVER MOBILE

"Welcome to Grastia, the city of Hope. Grastia was established in the year of war. Humanity was on the edge of extinction. Nations had crumbled, cities had fallen. Creatures and monsters of various kinds roamed the Earth. There was no hope for the survivors, until he appeared.

When he appeared nobody knew him, he was known as nothing more than a useless street urchin. His parents abandoned him to live alone, to fend for himself as they lived in luxury. When the apocalypse struck he set himself apart as brave and fearless. He was not the first to feel the mana in the world, but he was the first to utilise to fight back.

He honed his skills by putting himself in danger by facing off with monsters daily. But with such risk came great rewards. He grew stronger with each passing victory. In one week he could kill tens of what we refer to now as F level monsters. In one month, his strength was enough to challenge E rank monsters. Two months after that he could comfortably kill those same E rank monsters in their tens. Ten months after that as well, he was on par with half step D rank monsters. And the cycle continued. Along his journey of strength, he met a few like minded people.

They helped him in his journey and grew in power with him. Among these people, four of them were his closest friends and confidants and the most powerful after him. Slowly but surely they started amassing a large following and they settled down. They formed a territory in the wasteland that the world had become. A territory that would be the beginning of the city of Grastia and the nation it was named after.

The establishment of the city was not without its challenges. Monsters attacked regularly, but they were slain. Anarchists tried to take it down, but they too failed. Internal strife was sometimes a cause of concern, with civil war threatening to spill out, but with but a word from him it was squashed.

Through the efforts of its citizens, many refugees and survivors flocked to the city. Grastia soon established itself as the stronghold of humanity. Its people called it 'The City Of Hope' and rightfully so. Over the years that followed, many more cities were setup and humanity was now fighting back effectively. Being victorious in different skirmishes and battles with the monsters that had once been a cause for fear among the human populace. Humanity began to see the light again.

But alas, all good things must come to an end. Edward Kingsley, the founder of the city of Grastia, its leader and protector, died in his sleep at the age of 120. Everyone mourned his passing that day, rain poured down from the skies as if in weeping, thunder roared in the horizon as if in anguish, truly his death was a blow to the living.

His oldest and most talented son took his place as leader of Grastia. But this was after he faced the descendants of the other four great heroes and anyone who dared to challenge for the throne of power, in a ceremony now known as challenge Day, throughout the nation of Grastia. It's been thousands of years since the establishment of Grastia, nations have been established in different parts of the world, different prominent families have risen from the ashes of the old world, hundreds of challenge Days have been held and the Kingsley Family still hold the seat of power. The Four Great families are still among the most powerful in Grastia and the new world and their positions seem unshakable. The Heroic Academy was set up as a place to train future heroes in the nation of Grastia and it has spread to other parts of the world, with each nation now possessing branches in its borders.

Technology in Grastia has improved to the point where comfort and luxury meet reliability and efficiency. From state of the art Gravity Training Chambers (GTCs) to hover mobiles used for transportation cities and settlements along with teleportation hubs for long distance travel between nations. Truly mankind rose from the ashes and rebuilt even greater.

Entertainment is never really in short supply in Grastia, with something for everyone (except criminals of course) to enjoy, it's easy to see why this is an ideal destination for people of all shapes, sizes and tastes. What is the best that Grastia has to offer you ask, well why not get out and explore, wouldn't want to spoil the surprise now would we?

Once again we welcome you into our city and we wish you a very beautiful and pleasant stay. Feel free to explore as you wish, take in the best that Grastia has and fulfill all your hearts desires."

BEEP BEEP

I looked up at the approaching hover car and looked I must say I very impressed. The hover car was a mode of transportation used with in settlements in the city. As the staple transportation method then it was obvious that it had a very large market and thus various manufacturers all dabbled within this market with the wish to get a slice of the pie and profit.

This particular make and model was a [Holdin HC Series 79] made by Holdin Auto Corp, one of the leaders in the hover mobile industry, not just in Grastia but the world in general. It looked a lot like the BMWs from my world but a key difference was that instead of having wheels and a chassis, the hover mobile had no such thing. Instead it floated a metre above the ground, with a blue light flashing underneath the base of the car. I observed the hover mobile in pure fascination and awe, this was a marvel of technology.

What bummed me out was that I couldn't ask as many questions as I wished. I was supposed to be a fairly knowledgeable hero. So I believe even something as simple as a hover cars mechanisms should be common knowledge, wait a minute. I could fake memory loss.

Yeah let's do that, faking memory loss should allow me to ask all the questions I wish to ask without having to raise suspicion at my ignorance of this world. Now that I think about it. Can't I just use that as a way to gain knowledge of the things that aren't mentioned in books. With my made up I got into the bus and met a Caucasian middle aged man with sky blue eyes. He greeted me with a smile and a nod of his head. After giving the address to the house I lay back on the chair and observed the inside of the hover mobile.

This particular mobile seemed to be created with the aim to carry five people. The seats had a soft leathery feel to them, they felt extremely comfortable as I sat on one of them, almost like I would be swallowed whole just from the way it hugged my body. I could get used to this, as I enjoyed the comfortable seats in the back I couldn't help but notice it felt like we weren't moving. I opened my eyes and noticed that I was wrong, so very wrong.

We were moving, fast. So fast that the world was nothing but one big blur, I couldn't even discern left from right. How did the driver even know the way if we were moving at such speeds, I looked over to him and noticed he was wearing a helmet. It seemed to help him focus and drive properly it seems.

Oh I'm getting one of these. As soon as possible, I could use this kind of efficiency and speed in my life
