Chapter 1 - THE LEAF

Every weekday, in broad daylight and with concurrent classes in the morning, the things Leansei despises the most are weekdays. He can relish the hours of classes, but not having enough sleep during classes makes him want to sleep every subject.

However, he is unable to. He spends hours making an income for his daily needs and tuition fees. Thus, he didn't pay a tuition fee just for him to sleep in it.

While Leansei was in deep thought, Mr. Leyri noticed how preoccupied Leansei was, so he called him. "Leansei Ty." but no response. The students in his classes look at Leansei and start laughing when he is still looking at the window.

Leansei was looking at the students wearing PE uniforms, running, and playing on the soccer field, which he envies the most since he can't afford miscellaneous fees and time because after class he needs to work until midnight or past midnight.

' What did he feel-- ' He couldn't finish what he was saying in his thoughts when Mr. Leyri threw the eraser board at his head.

He almost fell down from his chair when something hard hit his forehead. Leansei immediately caressed his forehead to lessen the pain. He looked up and saw his classmates laughing at him and a terrifying look from Mr. Leyri, the professor of the gen math class.

"Ow.. " he said, rubbing his forehead.

"Now I got your attention, Sir. Ty?" Mr. Leyri said, with a scowl on his face. Leansei looked down and saw the eraser board that Mr. Leyri hurled at him.

'So vicious.' he said in his mind.

"Since you're busy thinking, then solve this problem," Mr. Leyri said. That made Leansei frown and didn't have any choice but to stand up while holding the eraser board.

He walked towards the board and stopped to look at it. Since Leansei was busy with his part-time jobs, he hadn't paid attention to every subject. "

It's not a TV show to stare at. Solve the problem, Mr. Ty." He took the whiteboard marker and looked at the equation carefully. But whatever he does or thinks, he really doesn't know how to solve it.

"Can this equation be used to earn money, sir?" Leansei asked out of nowhere.

"What??" Mr. Leyri said, with furrowed eyebrows.

"If not, I won't solve it," Leansei continued, and he was being mischievous once more.

He gave Mr. Leyri a silly smile.

Mr. Leyri was surprised and at the same time getting his face red in anger from the nonsensical words of Leansei. When Leansei realized that he had made an excessively big mistake, he ran away from Mr. Leyri and his classmates, who were laughing at him because of what they had witnessed.

Every school knows how silly, witty, and naughty Leansei Ty is, and every teacher dislikes him the most, but they don't have a choice but to treat him as a student in this school.

The bell rang as a sign of the lunch break.

"Leansei!" A vicious voice from Mr. Leyri calls out to Leansei in anger. He immediately turned, grabbed his bag, and ran towards the door.

"Bye bye, sir, have a nice day!" Leansei said and ran out into the corridor.

He is such a lucky man. If the bell hadn't rung, Leansei would be in a detention room, wasting his time instead of spending it on his part-time jobs.

Leansei ran as fast as he could while looking at his watch. It is 12 o'clock in the afternoon, and he is barely late for his shift in the coffee shop.

"Wait!" Leansei shouted from the bus that was about to go. Fortunately, it stopped, which made Leansei run towards it to ride the bus.

He tapped his card into the sensor and looked around the bus as it started moving.

The bus was occupied, and only one seat was available. Leansei immediately sat down in the bus seat and gasped for air because he was running continuously. He took out a handkerchief to wipe off his sweat.

But the bus stopped again, and there was an old lady carrying heavy bags. He immediately stood up and helped the old lady, then took her to his seat. Leansei stood beside her and held the straphanger.

The old lady looked up at him and smiled at him.

"You're so kind, young man," a kind smile from the old lady. Leansei just smiled at her and nodded in answer.

Leansei keeps looking at his watch when he only has 5 minutes before his shift. But his attention was cut off when an old lady offered him some candy.

Leansei looked at it and thought if he should accept it or not, but in the end he did because he believes that you can't reject the elders' offers or requests.

"Thank you," Leansei said, and minutes later, the bus stopped. The old lady stood up and tapped his shoulder goodbye. He stared at the old lady, thinking he felt odd about her.

When he reached the bus stop, Leansei immediately climbed down from the bus and looked at the candy in his hand. He unwraps the candy, and it's a blue candy with white paper around it. He ate it and read the paper.

"WHEN THE LEAF FALL DOWN THE RIVER AT THE FULL MOON AND WHEN THE SUN COMES UP, HE WILL BE RENAISSANCE," he read. He didn't give it much thought and threw it in the trash can before sprinting to the coffee shop.

The smell of bread and coffee permeates the coffee shop, attracting your inner soul to stay inside for a long time. No wonder many people come to coffee shops. It's really relaxing and addictive.

"You're late," a voice from a girl while removing her apron and hair net.

"Sorry," Leansei said, and removed his bag that was slung across his chest and walked toward the staff room where the staff locker was located, starting to open his locker and putting his bag inside. He wore his uniform before walking outside the staff room.

Leansei entered the counter and greeted the arriving customers, "Good afternoon. What's your order, ma'am?" he asked and started taking orders and making coffee.

.

Leansei worked his shift like he always did. He mopped the floor, wiped the tables, took the orders, and served all around by himself. That was the condition he made to the owner: if he wanted to work for 5 hours only, he needed to do all the errands in the coffee shop..

When his shift ended around 5 p.m., he left the coffee shop right away.

The coffee shop and Samgyupsal restaurant were just near each other, and it's just around the corner. Leansei ran as fast as he could because he was about to be late for his shift in the restaurant for his other part-time job.

When he entered, the restaurant was full of customers, and he thought that it was Friday and that it was also near to universities, which is why most of the customers were students.

"You're late," the owner said. "Take this to table six and give it to them," he said, handing Leansei the tray full of bacon and a side dish. Leansei walked towards the table and politely put it on their table.

As soon as he served it to table six, he ran towards the staff room to change his uniform and ran out to do his job.

"Sei, go to tables 8 and 7 and take their orders." The owner said that Leansei didn't respond and went to table 7 to take their order.

"Is that all ma'am sir?" Leansei asked after taking their orders. As soon as he got their orders, he took the orders from table 8 afterwards.

He worked simultaneously without taking a break. He served, took the orders, wiped the unclean tables and served their dishes.

.

Hours had passed as he looked at his watch. It was past 9 p.m. and this was the time he needed to wash the dishes outside before his shift ended.

"Good work, Sei," the owner said behind him. Sei just nodded while washing the big pans. He glanced at him and saw him hitting cigarettes while leaning against the wall.

"How can you manage three part-time jobs in a day? especially if you're still a student," he asked him. Leansei can't even respond because he hasn't thought of it since his parents died. All he thought was to earn money, no matter how hard the job was.

"Well, tomorrow will be your pay day. Congrats young man," he said, and threw his cigarette into the ground and stepped into it before walking inside the restaurant.

The owner took him in despite his being a student. Leansei is thankful to the owner for hiring him, even just for five hours of work.

After washing the dishes, Leansei took off his uniform, grabbed his bag from the locker, and bid his goodbye to the owner before walking out of the restaurant to make his way to his last part-time job today.

.

As he walked to the street, he rubbed his neck and stretched his arms because of the tiredness.

He couldn't take a break at all, but he could feel his body reaching its limit. Leansei knew that if he stopped, he would die of hunger. That is why he thought that he would rather die working for his daily needs than die doing nothing.

When he reached the convenience store, he came at the right time because the shift he would be replacing was about to leave. He wore his uniform and waited for the customers.

While waiting, he took out his book and notebook to do his assignments that needed to be submitted next week in order to do all his part-time jobs without worrying about his schoolwork.

"Good evening, welcome," Leansei said while looking at the monitor and the customers. The customers were students from the famous university in Lemous City. They wore their green blazers, white shirts, and green skirts.

As soon as they came to the counter, he took what they bought and scanned the products.

"I heard that Vcheroi's sons came home from Singapore!" The short-haired girl said while looking at her purse.

"Oh yess! I'll be seeing them next week!" An excited tone from the red-haired girl, Leansei, glanced at them. He knew that they were from a middle-class family.

Leansei doesn't even know what they're talking about. He doesn't spend much time on social media or watching TV. He always spends time on homework or part-time jobs.

Leansei put what they bought into the paper bag. "That's a total of 760 pesos, ma'am," he said, while looking at the monitor. She handed him one thousand pesos and took the paper bags.

"I bet Lucia will be clingy with Vcheroi Sons again."

"I bet too!"

"I received a total of 1,000. Here's the change--" Leansei was about to finish his sentence when the red-haired girl shook her head.

"Keep the change," she said as they walked outside the convenience store.

He smiled and thanked her quietly..

Hours come by and it's past 4 a.m., but Leansei can't get off his doldrums while sitting in his chair waiting for the customers. He tried slapping his face to wake his spirit, but Leansei's tiredness was swallowing him whole.

When Leansei heard that, he straightened his posture and stood up. It made his spirit awake. "Sleeping while on shift, huh?" the owner inquired.

Leansei looked down and scratched his temple because of guiltiness. He can't blame his body for not having enough energy because he really went beyond his limits this time.

"I'm sorry, sir," Leansei said, with a worry that he might get fired. Right now, that's the last thing he wants in his life: to get fired, because right now, that's not the best thing to do.

"No way, man. I know you worked hard. Here's your salary. Go home, you look like a mess," his owner said while laughing. Leansei gently took the envelope and thanked the owner.

He removed his uniform, put his things into his bag, and started walking away from the convenience store. It was still past 4 a.m. Leansei felt the cold breeze and dark streets as he walked. But all he could think of was his bed..

A few minutes after arriving at his apartment, Leansei immediately collapsed into his bed and slept without changing his clothes.

"Finally," a last word from Leansei before being swallowed with sleepiness.
