The university had sent me their long and quite confusing email talking about first day activities the look of the campus and where my classes will be. the setup look great but then I realize how far the dorm rooms were from my classes it was about a 30 mins walk. Their catalogue said there were buses but sometimes I might miss the bus what will happen then. these are just stuff I am going to have to live with now.
After checking my room for the billionth time to see if am leaving anything, IK finally made, my way down the stairs and saw my parents waiting.
"We are proud of you son, continue excelling at your work you will achieve it if you persevere and keep on track. And don't mek dem girl dem distract yow from yo work and keep straight." my parents said trying to give me some words of encouragement before I go through their door. Oh, foster parents, I keep messing those up.
We said our farewells and I went through the door.
The first thing on the agenda, get a taxi.
"Halfway Tree! Halfway Tree!". a robot taxi shouting as he drives down towards me
"You a go down deh youth"
Yeah but a white plate you have, so suppose police stop us?
Ano fi yo problem that, jump inna the car before me have fi drive over yo.
don't have to tell me twice. So I got in.
Jamaican taxis are the best; threaten your customers then casually start a conversation.
"so which part you ago now."
"up a UWI"
you know say mi run go up deh so to just mi gime like, 1500 and mi carry you up deh. Quick
spending 4 times my fare seems quite inviting.
No man mi have to buy something at halfway tree first.
and more awkward convo continued for the rest of the journey.
after I got off I took the JUTC bus which left me off at the UWI back gate it was slower but cheaper, way cheaper.
I look at the map on my phone and walk to the main office with some music in my ears.
At the front desk, about two people were waiting in line and 1 maybe 3 in the lobby area. When I got up to the receptionist, She asked what I was here for. and we got doing business pulling up my form and fees That are yet to be paid my boarding room my key. So much stuff that we took good 30 minutes to get through with it all.
The room that I got was Room #440 seems like I got here a bit late.
The room was quite quaint, not the best and I would be sharing it with about 3 other people. This was the cheapest setup that the University had so I took it.
There was already another person in there, well they weren't in the room but they had started setting up; the bedspread, shoes on display ( quite risky of them) and the necessities.
I soon got set up as well.
It was a long day of taking taxis and going over various documents and whatnot so after I have unpacked I went to sleep.
