The trip to the mountains was long, it had already been about 4 or 5 hours of walking and the sun was about to set. Zack did a quick review of the items that he and the kobolds with him had brought.
There were 3 tents, 8 days' worth of food, 5 swords, and 5 pickaxes. It wasn't much supplies, but they should have been enough for this journey. He had the kobolds start setting up the 3 tents that they brought while he distributed dinner to the kobolds. The dinner wasn't good by any means, it was just rations, food to keep them alive during the beginning stages of the game.
Once the tents were set up, Zack had assigned the sleeping arrangements to the kobolds. in one tent there were 4 kobolds, in another, there were 3 and in the last, there were 2 kobolds as well as himself. It was quite dark out at this time. dark enough to the point where nothing could be seen, so Zack logged out of the game and felt himself waking up inside of his VR pod.
"Wow... That was incredibly realistic..." Zack said to himself while getting out of the pod, quite amazed at the VR technology. He got up though and headed over to where his bed was and laid down on it. he then went to sleep quite quickly afterward, he had a big day tomorrow.
Zack woke up earlier than usual the next day. The reason for this was he was looking forward to leading his group of kobolds into the mountains and maybe even claiming it today. He quickly ate his breakfast to get to the VR pod quickly and then once he had finished his breakfast and laid down in the pod, he had started the game.
"Start Game, Kingdoms!" This was the second time he was logging into the game and today he wanted to try to gain control of the mountains.
Once he inhaled, exhaled, and let his eyes shut and opened them, he was laying inside of the tent that he logged out in. he sat up and did a few quick stretches, and then he stood up and left the tent and called out to the kobolds to start waking up and as they were doing so he divided rations up for breakfast.
After all of the kobolds were fed, they packed up and set out towards the mountains yet again. It took about 4-5 more hours of walking to arrive but they were able to make it to the mountains without much difficulty.
Upon arriving at the base of what Zack had believed would be a small mountain range, consisting of multiple mountains seemed to instead be a single mountain with a single peak. Leading up to this peak there was a path. Zack felt a little unsteady about this because there would usually be hostile NPCs in unconquered territories, or at least that is what he had read online.
Despite this, he led his kobolds up the path, he had already gotten this far, he shouldn't just turn back now and return to his basic farms with nothing. Zack had ordered for the kobold soldiers to have their weapons drawn for the time being as he felt that there could have been enemies somewhere nearby.
And so the kobolds walked up the path, weapons drawn. As they walked up the path they got to a block in the path, well it looked to be more like a staircase, though each stair was at least 4 feet tall. It was already difficult as is to climb up this staircase being the size of a kobold so the kobolds had to help the other kobolds climb up and then reach down and pull the remaining kobolds as well as the supplies like the tents up the stairs.
Zack was quite glad that these stairs didn't last long and while looking at the kobolds, he noticed they looked a bit exhausted already. He stopped walking and fully turned around, looking at the kobolds.
"Let's take a break, we've been traveling for quite a while." He said and it seemed the kobolds looked quite happy for a break from walking. And so they took a break and he distributed rations for a small lunch.
After distributing lunch, he sat on a rock and waited for the kobolds to eat. He watched them talk amongst themselves, it had seemed that the kobolds were currently getting along well and that was quite a good thing. In Zack's opinion trust was quite important when it came to fighting because if you couldn't trust the person who was going to protect your back then you wouldn't be able to focus properly on your role in the fight.
After giving the kobolds an hour break, Zack stood up from the rock he was sitting on, he then rallied up the kobolds who were sitting around talking. It seemed the hour break had given some energy back to the kobolds who were previously exhausted.
And so the kobolds kept moving up the path until after about 2 more hours they finally reached the top of the mountain. At the top of the mountain, there was a large flat area where there was a large building made completely out of stone except for it had massive doors which were made out of steel. It had window frames with no glass filling them. Where the problem lay to get into this building was what was surrounding the building.
Many animated skeletons were roaming around the building, which once Zack had spotted got the kobolds to be quiet and start backing up slowly. There was seemingly 30 or so just at this side of the building
Zack and his group of kobolds got back to a point of the path where they wouldn't be spotted. It was here that Zack started to try and think up a plan with the materials that he had.
The most obvious strategy here would be pulling away a few skeletons at a time from the larger group and then beating them while there was a smaller amount of them. There was a major problem with this strategy though. If there were this many skeletons then that probably meant that there was a powerful necromancer who probably could detect their undead being destroyed.
Another strategy that Zack thought of was to try and sneak in with a small group of kobolds limiting himself to just the soldiers. The problem with this was that it would be hard to get into the building so they would have to use the miner kobolds that were brought as a distraction to get in.
The last strategy that Zack had was a full-on attack, but this was an obvious no. If they rushed in they would quickly get swarmed and overpowered by the skeletons quite quickly since there were just too many skeletons.
And so after thinking for a good while Zack decided on which course of action to take. He was going to sneak into this stone building and take whatever was inside for himself and his kingdom.
