Michael sits in his apartment, going through the items he collected from Trevor's old office with a glass of Jack Daniels next to him. He takes his time when he spots something. A picture. The same picture of him and Trevor in Niagara Falls only it's not the same picture Michael left at Trevor's patrol car, no, this is one Trevor kept and he never noticed before. Michael looks at it for a long time as he goes into the bathroom. Standing in front of the mirror, his hand balls into a fist and in a fit of rage, he punches and shatters it. Breathing heavy, sweat rolling down his face, the rage, the fever, the anger. All of it, overtaking him almost possessing him like a powerful demon. Tears fall as Michael looks at himself in the destroyed mirror.
The funeral the next day is attended by family and closest friends along with colleagues while the entire city honors and decorates the city with American flags and line the streets to give him a final sendoff. Trevor is given a military funeral with the twelve gun salute, bagpipes, horse carriage, folding of the flag given to Kylie and TAPS is played. Before the casket is lowered into the ground, Michael approaches it and stands next to his fallen brother. For a moment, he closes his eyes just picturing him standing next to him, but when he opens them and sees nobody there, he comes to grips of the reality that his brother is gone. He gently touches the casket and in that very moment, Michael feels himself letting go.
Michael Monroe: I make this promise, I will find him and I will kill him. Whatever it takes. Roman will die for this. I promise you, Trevor.
He kisses the casket and walks away. In that exact moment, Michael feels his old self being buried with his brother and begins to embrace his inner dark side.
An emotional and long day nears its end, but Michael returns to his shop, not to work on any of the vehicles there except his own. He begins to customize it, fortifying it into a death machine with near indestructible shields, spare handguns placed in the glove compartment and underneath the two front seats. He then installs a police scanner that will allow him to hear of any criminal activity around the city. No more officers will be murdered on his watch and from this day forward, he makes it his own personal vow to protect the very officers that protect them and the city itself. Michael returns to his apartment and finds some black clothing he rarely ever wears so he changes into them then pulls out the box containing his old memories and takes the black and white skull mask he wore during his days in the military and slips it on to find it still fits perfectly. A second scanner has been set up inside his apartment and it begins to go off with an officer yelling his partner is down and can hear the gunfire over his radio. Michael springs into action and leaves his apartment before climbing into his car and speeding off towards the location of the call, but on his way two vehicles pull out in front of him. Each vehicle contains four armed masked men, making it eight total and Michael shifts gears and speeds after them. At first, the men pay no attention to him until he rams into the back of one of the cars.
Mercenary: We got company!
The mercenary leans out the window and opens fire, but the bullets ricochet off the windshield as the car is heavily fortified. Michael's car roars to the left and he rams it into the side of the car over and over again until the driver loses control and Michael reaches underneath his seat to pull out his handgun and shoots the driver in the head, killing him and causing the car to violently crash, flipping multiple times and the passenger in the front seat is ejected through the front windshield and is killed when the car rolls on top of him, crushing him to death. The other two in the backseat are severely wounded, but still alive as the car comes to a stop, landing upside down. They both crawl out from the wreckage and at first, don't see Michael anywhere until he shoots and kills one of them, quickly disarms the other and slams his face against the car. The masked mercenary pleads for mercy, but Michael stands there expressionless.
Michael Monroe: What about the officer you shot? Did you show him mercy? Answer me!
Mercenary: It was an accident! It was an accident! I swear! The- the gun went off and-. Please. Don't kill me!
Michael Monroe: I'm not going to kill you. In fact, I want you to deliver a message. You tell your boss that I'm coming for him and I'm bringing Hell with me.
Mercenary: Nobody hired us. It was just us. We all agreed to it and-
Michael delivers a vicious punch to his face.
Michael Monroe: I know you were hired by Roman Galloway!
Before he can get any further with the interrogation, Michael gets shot from one of the four men from the other car as he returns fire at them, but not managing to hit any of them. The shootout lasts a few seconds as Michael climbs into his car and speeds away. While driving, he notices he is bleeding pretty badly from the hip.
Michael Monroe: Fuck.
Michael slams on the gas pedal and goes as fast as he can to his apartment but starts to go in and out of consciousness due to massive blood loss. Michael ends up in the parking lot of the hospital, where he tosses his mask into the backseat and as he opens the door, he falls out onto the ground. Feeling his body starting to go limp, he crawls along the ground, trying to get to the front doors. He manages to pull himself to his feet using the other cars and stumbles as his vision starts to get blurry. The entrance seems to be so far away as a trail of blood follows him to the automatic doors that open and as he gets into the lobby, he collapses, causing the nurse at the front desk to rush over and help him while calling for help. Two more doctors and another nurse run to aid her as a stretcher is rolled over to him. Carefully, they place Michael onto it and take him to surgery when he loses consciousness, and everything fades to black.
