Ryan Sheldon's parents were more of a parent to Zach than his own parents. When he was a kid, he spent more time with Ryan's mom who was more of a mother to him than his own mother. His mother would drop him and his sister off at the Sheldon's place and lie she had somewhere important she ought to be when they all know her definition of important was shopping and partying
After Ryan left for his own house. Zach called Ryan's mom, Kelly, who Samantha was spending the night with. They spoke for a while about general things before Zach briefed her about Cora and Isabella. When they were done talking, the phone was passed over to Samantha.
"Daddy guess what?..." Samantha said excitedly as soon as the phone was given to her. She didn't wait for her father to answer before she went ahead to say what she wanted to say anyway
"I'm baking your favorite chocolate cake!"
