Sam was engrossed in his work for the entirety of the day. Kiera had not seen him since the morning when he left their room at first light. She was only seeing him now, as he returned to their shared bedroom late into the night, crawling into their bed. She wasn't asleep but pretended to be as he wiggled underneath the sheets, curling his body around hers.
She felt his icy hands snake around her waist, causing her to shiver at his touch. With this, he was aware that she had not gone to sleep yet.
His cold lips brushed against her exposed shoulder. She spoke calmly, but even then she couldn't help the sharpness that alluded from her as she asked him a question.
"Where have you been?"
"I had to step outside of the capital for a while. To confirm a couple of things." He kissed her skin, lingering for a couple of moments longer as the frigidness of his lips burned her hot skin.
