(Zane POV)
"Sir, are you sure you don't want me to hail you a cab?" The lady bartender said as she escorted me outside.
"It's fine, I'd like to walk for a while. I can manage." I said.
"Alright sir, have a good night."
I took a night stroll for a while with my head still slightly spinning from drinking a little bit much. I just couldn't cope with the thought that Orville fooled me and I fell for it. I drank my loneliness out until I eventually gave up. The bitter aftertaste of alcohol lingers on your tongue and it's so hard to wash out.
The lady bartender is nice enough to help me sober up by giving me lots of water and letting me nap in the staff room. Afterwards, I decided that it would be best to just face Orville and talk like two grown-ups. Avoiding him won't make the situation any better. As Janelle said, the more you run away from the problem, the larger it grows.
I was walking and enjoying the cold breeze of the night along the sidewalk when two men decided to approach me. One was in front and one was behind me and from the looks of it, they are unaware of someone's personal space because I can feel their breaths against my nose and against the back of my head.
"Sir, you are both invading my personal space."
"Give us your wallet now." The man behind said as he pointed his switchblade to my jugular. Suddenly, my drunken state was forgotten and I quickly sobered up because it looks like I'm up for a game of life and death here.
'On a count of three' I said inside my head. '1…2…3!'
I bit the man's arm quickly which made him drop his blade and whine in pain. I kneed the groin of the one in front of me and pushed him to the side. With that, I quickly ran for dear life.
"Get him!" One of them said as they ran after me.
I was running and running so I decided to channel Tom hanks in Forrest Gump wherein he did not let anything hold him back.
"Run Forrest! Run!"
"Run Zane! Run!"
"He's getting away, hurry!"
I can feel that they're way behind and they can't catch up to me anymore so the next step is to lose them now. I decided to turn left in the alleyway because I know these parts already. I have taken a shortcut here so many times that I know for sure, as soon as they lose sight of me, they are never going to see me again. As I went through the alley that I always use for a faster route, I made haste so I can climb the wire fence that always transports me to the other part of the sidewalk. I am this close to losing them when I felt something shatter against my head. I fell down from above the fence and I can feel my vision blurring.
"We got him. Take his wallet before someone sees us."
The men went for my pockets to check for anything they can steal while I am barely conscious anymore.
"Leave him alone." A voice of a lady said.
"Who the fuck are you now?"
"I said leave him alone."
"Dude, can you teach this bitch a lesson?" One of the men said.
"Listen, sweetheart! I am giving you a chance to walk away now before you suffer some serious consequences and some serious injuries." He said before clicking his switchblade ready.
"I should be the one telling you that. I am giving both of you, nitwits a chance to walk away now before you suffer some serious consequences." She threatened back.
"Bitch! Who do you think you are talking…"
He did not even get to finish his sentence because by that time, shots were already fired and I didn't get to see what fully happened anymore because I was blacking out already.
Suddenly, I heard stilettos clacking towards my direction. A lady appeared and she was staring down at my barely conscious body. Wait a minute, I know her. Two men in suits then went beside her and joined her in eyeing me on the floor.
"Take him to the car and get rid of the bodies." The lady said.
"Yes, ma'am!"
I was carried, bridal style by one of the suited men all the way inside of what it looks to be a luxurious limousine. I definitely know that woman.
She is the stalker. What is she doing here? How did she find me? What is all this?
With that, the darkness fully took over without me whispering or saying one single word to the man.
