Chereads / THE DRAGON QUEEN / Chapter 5 - Inheritance

Chapter 5 - Inheritance

After their father left Hela and Hiccup ate dinner before heading to bed. A few hours later Hela was tossing and turning in her bed like she was having a bad dream when suddenly her eyes snapped open but they weren't their normal colour they were glowing dark red while she stared at the ceiling like she was in a trance.

Inside her mind, Hela found herself on a vast open field filled with flowers. It gave off a calm and relaxing atmosphere but Hela didn't let her guard down because she was in an unfamiliar place since she didn't know she was in her mindscape, suddenly a massive shadow covered the whole field before she heard a voice that felt like it was speaking directly into her mind.

"It's good to finally meet you Hela," The voice said as Hela turned around only for her eyes to widen as she saw a massive silver Dragon standing in the distance but it look like she was standing next to it with how big it was.

"I know the size is a bit excessive but I just wanted to see your reaction," the voice said with a laugh as the Dragon shrunk to the size of a typhoomerang before flying and landing in front of Hela, "There much better"

"Who are you?" Hela asked after getting over her shock.

"My name is Saphira the former Dragon Queen and you are my successor," Saphira said as she held her head high exuding a powerful Aura befitting her title.

"What do you mean by successor?" Hela asked.

"It means that I have chosen you to inherit my power as you have seen for the past few days," Saphira said.

"I don't understand why me I have killed a dragon before," Hela asked feeling guilty as she remembered that night.

"Sometimes you just have to die a little inside in order to be reborn and rise again as a stronger and wiser version of you. Rage may have driven you into killing that dragon Hela but you did not let it control you, instead, you decided to study the dragon's behaviour and gave them the benefit of the doubt, being both soft-hearted and strong-minded, knowing when to forgive and when to not is a combination very few have mastered and it is why I chose you" Saphira said as her dragon form glowed before turning into a beautiful woman with blond hair, golden eyes, pointy ears, 4 horns and a silver crown with a green gem on the front on her head.

"Now then would you accept the rest of my powers," Saphira asked.

"What kind of powers will I get," Hela asked.

"Good question, the first thing is you'll be able to use any and all powers and flames of all the dragon classes, second like myself you will have a dragon form or forms depending on how compatible you are with my power and last but not least Dragon control and communication meaning you'll be able to talk to them and control them if you wish, so what do you say" Saphira explained.

"Alright I'll do it but I have a question I'm I gonna get all that power at once because, to be honest, it seems a lot of power to get in an instant," Hela asked.

"I'm glad you asked because like you said that's a lot of power to get at once if that happened before your body got used to the power you'll blow up so you'll get them gradually like your Dragon form or forms will start off at the size of a monstrous nightmare and it'll increase in size the more your body gets used to the power this also applies to the others as well you will start off with your own flames and the first dragon power you'll get is that of a night fury since it is the first dragon you bonded with. Your communication and control will be weak as well since you won't be able to talk to them at first but feel their emotions and you will be able to control only 5 Dragons with some being able to resist but with time it will be so powerful that no Dragon will be able to resist even an Alpha species" Saphira said.

"Alright that's good because this will give me enough time to train with these powers, ok I'm ready," Hela said making Saphira nod her head.

"Alright, all you have to do is remove that sword from the stone," Saphira said while pointing at a sword with a blue blade.

Hela walked up to the sword and grabbed it before she pulled it upward and the sword was removed from the stone smoothly. The blade shimmered with blue energy before it erupted in green flame and with it Hela felt an enormous amount of power was pumped into her veins which made her kneel and stab the sword into the ground.

Her whole body began to glow before turning into a black dragon with 4 horns, 6 red eyes and a tail that had what looked like a trident at the end. It unfolded its massive wings before roaring.

"So how do you feel," Saphira asked after Hela stopped roaring as she studied Hela's Dragon form noticing that it was bigger than a nightmare, 'well it seems that she's 100% compatible with my power that would mean she has 2 more Dragon form I knew I chose the right successor' she thought with a proud look on her face.

Hela looked down as she lifted her front right leg, she had 4 fingers instead of 5 with long and sharp claws. She felt amazing it was her first time shifting into a dragon but she felt comfortable like she was using this form her whole life.

"I feel incredible it's like I've found a missing piece and now I'm whole," she said as she looked at her wings in awe.

"Yes it's quite the addicting feeling but you'll get used to it but I believe that you have 2 more forms to try out" Saphira reminded her making Hela nod as her form glowed before changing, this one had 2 eyes but it was a lot spikier and looked menacing.

She glowed again and this time it looked like the second one but not as armoured with 2 curved horns and a few places on its throat glowed green.

After that, she turned back to her human form as she picked up the sword and sheathed it in a scab that magically appeared on her waist.

"Is it always gonna be like this or I'm I gonna rip my clothes every time I transform?" Hela asked curiously.

"Yes normally you would rip your clothes but that's why I'm giving you this" Saphira said as she handed Hela 2 rings.

"The first one is engraved with runes that'll keep your clothes when you transform while the second one is for your significant other since it will tell you when they are in danger" Saphira explained as Hela put on the first ring. Hela noticed that she fading so she looked at Saphira confused.

"What's happening"

"It looks like you're waking up well I guess this is goodbye but before you go I have one last thing to give you," Saphira said as she took off her crown and put it on Hela's head, "Every Queen needs a crown and remember Hela if your path demands you to walk through hell, walk as if you own the place"

After that Hela woke up with a start before looking around to see it was still dark. 'Was it all a dream' she asked herself before something touched her hand that was next to her bed only to see it was the sword she removed from the stone so she looked at her hand to see the ring and the other one on her neck like a necklace finally she touched her head and feel the crown.

"Where I'm I gonna put this thing," she thought before her finger touched the gem making it glow as it changed shape into a headpiece that separates her hair with the gem dangling from her forehead with a small chain. 'Convenient '

What she didn't know was when she roared in her mindscape a massive Aura bursted from her that every Dragon felt as they all bowed in the same direction.

(Next morning.)

"Welcome to Dragon training," Gobber said as they entered the arena Hela stood in the back while the others lined up.

"No turning back," Astrid said.

"I hope I get some serious burns," Tuffnut said making Hela roll her eyes.

"I'm hoping for some mauling like on my shoulder or lower back" Ruffnut added.

"Yeah, it's only fun if get a scar out of it," Astrid said sarcastically.

"Yeah, no kidding, pain love" Hiccup said making Hela frown since she can see he's not taking this seriously.

"Focus hiccup," she tells him as he nods half-heartedly.

"Oh, great who let him in," Ruffnut says.

"Let's get started the recruit who does best will win the honour of killing his first dragon in front of the entire village," Gobber says making them excited except for hiccup and Hela who's frowning as she felt the emotions of the dragons that were in the cages they were angry and afraid, angry for being denied their freedom and afraid that they were gonna die here.

"Hiccup already killed a night fury so does that disqualify him or," Snoutlout asked as the twins laughed.

"You want to repeat what you said snout face because I thought I heard you making an appointment with my fist for your face," Hela said as she cracked her knuckles scaring him as he shakes his head while the twins shut up instantly.

"Don't worry you're weak and small that'll make you less of a target, they'll see you as sick or insane and go after the more Viking like teens instead" Gobber tells Hiccup.

"Was that supposed to make him feel better?" Hela asks Gobber but he ignores her making her chuckle.

"Behind these doors are a few of the many species you'll learn to fight, The deadly nadder," Gobber says as he points to one of the cages.

"Speed 8, armour 16," fishlegs says.

"The hideous zippleback"

"Stealth ×2"

"The monstrous nightmare"

"Firepower 15"

"The terrible terror"

"Attach 8, venom 12"

"Would you stop that" Gobber finally says frustrated with fishleg's analysis.

"And the Gronckle" Gobber says as he puts his hand on the lever.

"Jaw strength 8" fishlegs whispers to Hiccup when Snoutlout steps forward with a concerned look.

"Woah, wait aren't you gonna teach us first," He asks Gobber.

"Gobber believes in learning on the job" Hela answers him while Gobber nods in agreement before pulling the lever before the Gronckle getts out flying around frantically looking for rocks. While the teens run around trying to avoid the dragon.

"Today is all about survival, if you get blasted your dead." Gobber says before he sees the dragon eat some rocks it found, "Quick what's the first thing you're gonna need"

"A doctor," Hiccup says making Hela facepalm.

"Plus 5 speed," fishlegs says.

"A shield," Astrid says making Hela smile at her proud while Astrid blushes when she sees the proud look her girlfriend was giving her.

"Shields go," Gobber tells them as they run to the shields.

"Your most important piece of equipment is a shield if must choose between a sword and a shield, take the shield," Hela tells them.

The twins start fighting over one of the shields.

"Take your hands off my shield," Tuffnut says.

"There are like million shields" Ruffnut replies.

"Take that one it has flowers on it girls like flowers," Tuffnut tells his sister before she wacks him in the head with the shield.

"Oops, now this one has blood on it," she says before the shield is blasted out of their hands by the Gronckle.

"Ruff, Tuff you're out, those shields are good for another thing- noise make lots of it to throw the dragons aim," Gobber tells them before they started to bang their shields to make noise making Hela wince since her sense was enhanced. "All dragons have a limited number of shots how many does a Gronckle have"

"5!?" Snoutlout says questioning

"No 6," fishlegs says

"Correct that's one for each of you," Gobber says before fishlegs shield gets blasted. "Fishlegs your out, Hiccup get in there"

"So anyway I just moved into my parent's basement, you should come by sometime to workout you look like you workout," Snoutlout says to Astrid but she ignores him and rolls out of the way while Hela glares at him before she flings as small green flame she made at him making him run around trying to put it out.

"Snoutlout you're out," Hela says with a smug smile.

"So it's just you and me huh," Hiccup says as he stands next to Astrid.

"Nope just you," Astrid says before moving out of the way as the Gronckle blasted away Hiccups shield with him trying to catch it but the dragon puns him to the wall as it readies another blast only for Hela to shoulder tackle it away from her brother the blast hitting the wall. The dragon growled and turned to the person who attacked it only for it to whimper and turn its gaze to the ground once it meets Hela's glowing red eyes before going back to its cage without a fight surprising the others.

"Well they don't call her Dragons bane for nothing," Gobber says, "well that's it for today you'll get another chance don't you worry and remember a Dragon will always always go for the kill"

'Not always' Hela thought as she looked at her brother who was staring at the blast that hit near him before putting her arm on Astrid's shoulder and leaving with the others.
