Chapter 45 - Commander Joaquin

As the Sky Equestrian Knights celebrated along with the tribesmen from Macatan, Joaquin was closely watching Glenn's every move. He was still skeptical about his existence and how the giant ominous aura that they detected was just from mere Cervusus.

"How are you feeling?" Glenn sat beside Joaquin. "I know we still haven't fully earned your trust, but I also know that we won't harm you."

"Just focus on your goal and I'll focus on mine," Joaquin said coldly. He stood and walked to the forest, leaving Glenn on the log they were sitting on.

Gina sat beside him and wrapped her arms around Glenn. "Cheer up. He won't understand anything now, but he will later on. After all, we're not the villains here."

"Right," Glenn said with a sigh. "Let's not ruin the tribe's feast for us."

"Let's drink!" John came running towards them with three jugs of beer. "Assassins aren't usually this strong, but when it comes to booze, we're stronger than ogres!"

Glenn shook the sorrows and worries away. Gina was right. He can't let his own emotions dictate his actions. He was going to save Joaquin even if it meant the tides of the storyline would change.

The night went by like a flash. Drunk people were sprawled everywhere. A pile of people was seen from the left and on top of that pile was John himself, muttering things under his breath.

By the edge of the clearing was a man, leaning on a tree. He had his arms crossed as he watched his knights get drunk like they were just citizens.

"Let them have it," Glenn stood beside Joaquin. "It's not every day that you encounter a Cervusus, a Blue one at that."

"I am not worried about that at all," Joaquin said. "What bothers me is you."

Glenn pointed at himself. "Me? And why is that?"

"You're the source of that vast power," Joaquin said. "You can fool everyone else but you cannot fool me. I have been training since I was young and my eyes are expert in magic perception."

"Well, you're both right and wrong," Glenn said. "I was the source of that magic but at the same time, I'm not."

"What?" Joaquin scoffed. "How can you be both?"

"It's simple." Glenn stood in front of Joaquin and showed the man his hololiths. "These are my weapons. Each of them was crafted by the legendary creatures of the higher realms."

"Higher realms?" Joaquin narrowed his eyes. He took a closer look at the weapons and gasped after he saw the details on them. "What the–"

The light gray hololith had carvings of feathers and wings, small details that are not visible to a normal human's eye. On the other hand, the darker hololith had rose petals and wings on them.

Glenn knew that Joaquin was not a normal human, but he never knew that he was at this level. Magic perception was limited to Adventurers and humans that were born of magic, but seeing magical engravings was an even higher class of humans. They are called Magus and will have a huge impact on the storyline ahead.

This conversation sealed Joaquin's safety in the eyes of Glenn. He wants to protect the young knight even more after this confrontation. A Magus is so rare that it's literally one in three million. God's Omen's world only has about twenty million within their population, so there are

ten Magus.

That being said, a Magus can have great attributes that could help Glenn in the long run, especially when it comes to battling the Dark Lord.

He was still unsure of his current abilities, so as much as he could, he wanted to recruit people that will be beneficial for their battle.

"Joaquin," Glenn called out, but he stopped himself. He felt like this was not the time to have this conversation with the young knight. "Nevermind."

"If you want to say something, I am all ears," Joaquin said. "I try to open my mind in a lot of things and this includes the existence of the warriors that were sent by the heavens to aide us in fighting the Dark Lord."

"This is not the right time for us to be having this conversation," Glenn said. "For now, you can go back to your kingdom. I know that we will meet each other again."

"Alright," Joaquin stood properly and offered his hand to Glenn. "Maybe we're not meant to meddle with each other's business for now."

"No," Glenn smirked. "But soon, I know that we'll cross paths again."

Glenn took the young knight's hand and shook it. He smiled but something fast was approaching them.

This made the two men raise their guards. Joaquin brandished his sword while Glenn raised his hands in defense.

"Do you feel that?" Glenn asked to which Joaquin answered with a scoff.

"I can sense the magical properties of your weapons, do you think I can't smell something this ominous?" Joaquin said. "I can't see its form, but I'm sure it's a beast."

"Then that shouldn't be a problem for–" Glenn groaned when he remembered that John was currently unfit to fight. The man was passed out from intoxication and he was even snoring loudly.

"Fine," Glenn sighed. "Joaquin, I have your back. Let's deal with this monster."

Joaquin nodded and this prompted the two of them to follow where the aura of the dark creature was. Joaquin had a higher magic perception than Glenn, so he was the one who lead the way.

As they got closer and closer to the source of the aura, the more it got ominous. This aura in particular got a stench to it.

"Auras don't usually manifest physical senses," Glenn said. "Whatever this is, it must be created from pure darkness."

"Well, I think it is," Joaquin responded as he pointed in front of them. "Just look at that thing."

Glenn looked at where the man was pointing, and sure enough, he understood why the knight looked horrified.

In front of them was a giant blue slime that had dark green tentacles. Each tentacle had teeth instead of a suction organ and the teeth would twitch like they had a mind of their own.

The slime itself was horrible to look at. It had a dark blue color and had black tint all over it as if it was a dirtied lake.

"This is no ordinary creature," Glenn said. "It's a Summon. And whoever summoned it had extreme anger and dark intention. This creature was summoned to kill."
