In the room, none of them said a word. The principal had sat himself down on his chair, behind a huge table. He had started reading the letter since he placed it at utmost importance.
Einar started to look around and saw that this room did not have that much stuff in it. It seemed like this guy was min malistic. All he had in the room was lots of bookshelves with lots of books, and a table with some chairs.
The room was not that big, not much bigger than the shed he lived in with Rayes.
"You want to join the royal academy?" The principal said with a curious look.
The principal knew that he should not ask about where Rayes is. He knew that there must be a reason for him disappearing and not coming back. He did not want to spring his relationship with Rayes, by asking this question.
"Yes! I need to get stronger!" Einar said earnestly.
"Oh, but you had Rayes as your master, he could have taught you to be a mage!" The principal said with a doubtful expression.
Now that he thought about it, it was quite weird for a disciple of Rayes to be a swordsman.
"He did teach me man gathering, but no spells ... I want to be a magic swordsman!" Einar started to explain. "So he said the best place for that, was here" Einar was looking forward to getting stronger.
"Oh, a magic swordsman, that's rare!" The principal could not help but comment. "How long have you been training in the sword then?"
"Around six days, since I started traveling here!" Einar answered honestly.
He had only trained the sword for that amount, but he had also trained the body for two months before that, which helped him grow stronger quickly.
After hearing his answer, the principal was speechless. Einar had only been training with the sword for six days but was already strong enough to one-hit one of the guards of the academy.
He knew the guards were not the strongest, but they were still veterans of the army.
"S-Six days? H-How many techniques do you know?" The principal was quite scared to ask this, If he knew how to fight prolonged fights, instead of only that one-hit-kill 'Quick Draw' skill. He would have a monster in his hand.
He was already a monster honestly, how many people could say that they could kill a veteran in one hit after only six days of training?
"I only know the one technique ... that was all my teacher gave me ..." Einar said with a wry smile. He knew his shortcoming was that he could not fight in a prolonged fight.
-Sigh- The principal could not help but sigh, it was a could thing for him. "Good!" The principal could not help but comment.
"By the way, I don't know your name yet ..." The principal just thought of this, as he blurted it out.
"My name is Einar, a pleasure to meet you!" Einar answered, he tried to be as polite as possible. Since the principal was the strongest in the capital after all.
"Zarug, likewise!" The principal answered back. "Back to the main topic, you wanted to be enrolled in the academy, right?"
"Yes!" He answered immediately.
"I can not just let you in, we need to test you if you have the potential we need!" The principal said.
"My potential?" Einar was confused. He had no idea what this potential test was. His master had never told him about this.
"We need to test if you have potential in being either mage, fighter, or both!" The principal started to explain. "The test is being done with a crystal ball we have in our school! The way it works is that it shows a number of stars from 1 - 15 in both the mage and the fighter category! 15 is the best score, while 1 is the worst!" The principal expƄlained.
"To start in the academy, you need at least nine in one of these categories!" Zarug said. "The average human scores around four in fighter and 2 in mage! So be ready for that!" The principal said so that Einar did not get his hopes up too high.
"Okay, when do I take the test then?" Einar was ready for the test, his master told him he was a monster after all.
"It will happen tomorrow at mid-day since it takes around a day to set up! So, until then, why don't you observe some classes, and then I will find a place for you to sleep for the night!" Zarug had huge respect for Rayes, and since Einar was his disciple, he would show respect to him too.
"Can I really do that?" Einar was surprised by this.
"Of course, if you are lucky, you might even learn a spell or a technique from it!" Zarug was treating Einar as a genuine student already. "I have to join you about if you really do join, you will be half a year behind the rest! this means you have to work harder than any one of the other students!" He warned Einar with a serious face.
"I understood, hard work is not so bad!" Einar replied with a small smile.
"Good, what class do you want to start in right now? I will escort you to the classroom myself!" Zarug knew that Einar would not get into any of the classes if he just showed up by himself. He would at the very least get scolded.
"I want to train my foundations in swordsmanship, so please show me a class for that! Thank you!" Einar answered back.
He had a lot of shortcomings in fighting. A prolonged fight was his biggest weakness. He needed to learn the sword before he started with the magic.
"Good!" Zarug said, as he dashed over to Einar and flew out of the office.
"AAH!" Einar did not expect this to happen, he had thought Zarug would just walk him there.
Einar saw that they were flying outside the academy, into their courtyard. There was a huge training field there, with many different training contraptions.
There was also a huge open space, where around 50 students were swinging swords at the moment. With an older man walking around, adjusting the different students.
Zarug flew over to this group of people and landed. Einar and Zarug stood around ten meters from the group, as both the students and the teacher saw them.
All the students went down to one knee, and saluted "Principal!" While the teacher just bowed slightly and said "Zarug, what brings you here?"
"I have this student who wants to join the academy, he will go through an assessment tomorrow, until then, he will be in your class!" Zarug said with an indifferent tone while pointing at Einar.
Einar had gotten the impression the Zarug was quite easygoing, but it seemed he had a serious side too.
"Hello, my name is Einar!" He said as he bowed down to the big group of people.
The teacher looked straight at Einar with a serious look. Normally the only people that are able to join in the middle of a year, are nobles. Seeing the clothes Einar was wearing, he was definitely a commoner.
"Did you bring a commoner to join our glorious academy?" The teacher looked at Einar with mocking eyes, while asking Zarug in an angry tone.
"What if I did?" Zarug responded to the teacher's provocations.
"It is the royal academy, only for nobles and royals! Not commoners!" The teacher was quite annoyed by this.
"You forgot something ... if someone is strong enough, they can do what they want!" Zarug said as he looked at the teacher with cold eyes.
"You saying this kid is strong?" The teacher asked.
"For his age, yeah! Probably stronger than most in your class!" Zarug said, trying to provocate the teacher.
"Oh, he is?" The teacher said with a mocking tone. "You wouldn't mind him fighting one of my students then, would you?" The teacher continued to be mocking "If he wins, I will teach him what I can, if he loses, he has to leave!"
Zarug looked at Einar, asking with his eyes if he was ready for this challenge . All Einar did, was to give Zarug a small nod, with a serious look. It seemed like Zarug believed in him.
"Sure, Einar here seems ready!" Zarug looked at the teacher seriously. "Go all out!" Zarug patted Einars shoulder and whispered this to him.
Einar would probably not have used the full power of his skill on a student if the principal had not said he could. After all, this skill was made to kill in one hit.
"Good, Ragnar, come out!" The teacher said as a tall student with a slim body walked out. This kid was using a massive two-handed sword.
"Everyone, make a circle so they can fight!" The teacher said as all of the students started to surround the two fighters.
"Both fighters ready?" Zarug asked.
""YES!"" They answered at the same time.
"Good, let the fight ... BEGIN!" Zarug yelled out.
