As time passes, the line moves, and all the girls that enter, come out either angry or in tears. Then it's my turn and when I enter along with Ollie I'm greeted by a strange scene as three guys try to calm down a girl who's screaming her head off while shouting in German. The door closes behind me getting everyone's attention.
The lady practically rushes towards me rambling in German as she shakes me while gesturing at the three men which causes my glasses to fall. When my gaze lands on them I finally understand why she's panicking. The tallest guy is a stone troll, the second guy is a werewolf and the third a vampire.
"It's ok besides, don't you think the term 'monster' is a bit harsh?" I ask, causing her to pause mid-rant as she continues to stare at me.
"You can see them?" She asks full of hope in English.
"Yes, I've been seeing them ever since I was born." I say to her the gentle smile still on my face.
"We didn't know you had the sight because of your glasses. Why?" The vampire asks getting my attention.
"It's specially made. I know you guys don't like it when all of a sudden you're staring into the eyes of someone who can see your true nature. It unnerves you and some react poorly so the glasses help." I say in response then look back at the girl.
"So did you get the job or not?" I ask her.
"I got it." She says nervously as she stands behind me while looking at the three men nervously. A cold nose nudging my hand gets my attention and I look down to see Ollie holding out my glasses to me.
"Thanks, buddy." I say as I wipe them off then put them back on.
"So since the bartender job is taken, I'll show myself out." I say and before I can turn away the girl grabs onto my shoulder making me stare at her in the eyes.
"Stay please. Don't leave me here with them." She says as she stares at the men.
"Why don't you work along with her? Help her get comfortable. Work the same shifts." The tallest guy says.
"Please?" She asks, holding my hand in hers.
"Sure. When do we start?" I ask with a sigh.
"Tonight." He says.
"Sure." I say as I remove her hands from mine, give the gentlemen a salute, her a smile then leave with Ollie close behind.
Well, I got the job. Yayyyyy but I'm not feeling that way since Jemma is not used to seeing underworld members for what they are so babysitting duty. After a quick shower and changing into a red jersey with a black protective sleeve on my left hand, my black jacket and combat boots, and my hair in a high ponytail accompanied with my glasses and bracelet.
"Ollie, dinner's out and I'll be back later. Don't wait up." I say as he sits in front of me obediently, wagging his tail slightly.
I pet him on the head, adjust the temperature of the apartment so that he's more comfortable than head to work. When I arrive I can hear the base of the music from inside and the long line is evidence that these people were waiting for Eclissi to open.
I head to the side of the building going towards the staff entrance where Jemma is pacing back and forth trying to calm her steps.
"You know pacing back and forth grates on people's nerves." I say making her jump but when she recognizes it's just me, she smiles.
"Hey Astrid." She says.
"Hi. Aren't you going in?" I ask her as she stares at the door.
"Is it silly I want to run as far away as possible?" She asks, laughing at herself.
"No. It's perfectly normal and you're having the best reaction from what I've seen over the years." I state then move towards the door.
"Wait." She says grabbing my hand that causes me to face her.
"Yes?" I ask and she hesitates to speak.
"Jemma, if you're looking to have some sort of sisterly relationship with me it's not going to work. I'll help you with adjusting to your new ability but no more, no less." I state as she stares at me.
"And if I want to change your mind?" She asks, causing me to smile slightly.
"You can try." I state and she lets go of my hand then stares at the door with determination.
We enter together and are immediately greeted by the werewolf and vampire from yesterday. Jemma partly hides behind me and I smile to myself at her reaction.
"Don't you owe them an apology?" I ask innocently and she nods as she looks at me then slowly approaches them.
"I'm sorry about yesterday." She says keeping her gaze on the floor.
"It's ok." The vampire says with a smile in response.
"We're more or less used to it." He says with a shrug.
"But that doesn't make it right." Jemma says as she braves looking them in the eyes.
"We didn't get your name yesterday." The werewolf says as I start to zone out of the conversation when I feel a gaze on me. I look up to see the vampire staring at me and I raise an eyebrow in question but he blinks then looks away as though his mind was elsewhere.
"Jemma." She says in response with a smile.
"Sean." Says the werewolf.
"Victor." The vampire says then they all turn to stare at me.
"Astrid." I say in turn.
"Who created your glasses, Astrid?" Victor asks.
"My brother." I say coldly not willing to take the conversation further than that.
"Can you see without them?" Sean asks and I nod my head in response.
"Are you going to wear them to work?" Jemma asks and it's clear that she's nervous.
"I'll keep them off when I work until Jemma is comfortable with it." I state as I take off my glasses then look up at them again.
"Better?" I ask and Jemma nods her head with a smile.
"You have amber-blue eyes?' She asks as she takes a closer look at my eyes.
"Yes." I say with a slight nod of my head.
"They're beautiful." Victor says.
"Thank you." I say.
'Well then, let's get to work." Sean says as we head to the staff room where we'll get our locker to put our belongings while we work. When I take off my jacket and place it in my assigned locker along with my phone and handbag along with my glasses I feel Jemma's gaze on me. More specifically my left hand. I raise my gaze and meet hers coldly causing her to blush and turn away.
With the simple roll of my eyes, I close my locker and head to the bar where Sean and Victor are waiting on us. Upon entry, I feel several gazes on me but I ignore them as I approach Sean who's serving an elf.
When he notices me, I smile at him then turn towards the elf who raises his glass to me in greeting as he looks into my eyes and I smile in response. He walks off and Sean captures my full attention.
"How have you ever bartended before?" He asks.
"Here and there." I say with a shrug of my shoulders, a smirk present on my lips.
"Ok, spitfire. I'm going to deal with the new arrivals while you deal with the others as fast as they come." He says and I nod in agreement.
It didn't take long for her first customer to approach her with malice and hostility since he realized she has the sight but it doesn't bug her in the slightest. She serves him his order with a polite smile and he's shocked at how fast she prepared but she doesn't answer any of his questions causing him to leave her alone.
'Haughty wolves.' She thinks as she rolls her eyes. It didn't take long for my people to approach her, some were nice, some polite, some curious, and then some disliked her because she could see them for what they were and tried to speak to her as though she were a slave and in turn, she completely ignored them at which time Sean had to intervene.
