Chereads / My WereDragon Husband Is Too Domineering / Chapter 3 - Retrieving the Necklace

Chapter 3 - Retrieving the Necklace

Upon hearing that, Reese, who had finally calmed down, touched the pocket of her clothes. She felt the shape of a necklace. It was the necklace that her mother had always said to keep close to her since she was young.

Although she didn't know what use it had, she had worn it since a young age and was already very used to it. It also had her mother's aura and acted as a lucky charm on many occasions. Now that she was alone here, she further saw this item as her last connection with her mother.

Reese treasured this retrieved possession very dearly, especially since the werebear nurse had clearly told her that no personal items were allowed in the hospital. She also felt quite a thrill, to now have a "forbidden item" in her pocket.

After all, Reese had only been an obedient child throughout the past 20 years, always well-behaved and working towards her goals. Everything only changed from the day she got engaged!

Secretly, Reese tried to deduce the identity of the man in front of her, and why he was actually able to get her confiscated items returned to her.

By the time she had relaxed a little and was about to speak, King had already turned to look out the observation window on the door and was keeping watch on the werebear nurse outside. She realized that even if he had a prominent position in the hospital, he was still unable to break the rules here.

It seemed like this psychiatric hospital was more than met the eyes, and it probably held even more classified secrets!

She followed King's gaze and saw that the werebear nurse was still standing outside stiffly, deterred by his behavior from expressing her words of gratitude.

King warned, "This is the hospital, not your house. Stop with all of this crying."

Reese understood that King was trying to urge her to be independent, so she only nodded and cheered herself on inwardly.

After all, from this moment on, she would have to face everything on her own.

Seeing Reese this way, King knew that he had done all that he could. He said nothing else, and only took a long, deep look at the pouting Reese, as if trying to commit the appearance of this shy human lady to his memory and treasure it thereafter.

As he looked at the face and body that had been extremely arousing to him earlier, he no longer had any romantic ideas towards her at all. He no longer felt the impulsive urge that he felt earlier. It was almost as if he had been someone else back then. Right now, he only felt a little awkward and remorseful as he looked at the beautiful young lady, while also feeling quite sympathetic about her future.

Since his arrival at this hospital, King had yet to come across any classified information, but he had seen many people who had disappeared or had gone wild. Although he wanted to save them, the big target behind the scenes hadn't taken the bait yet, so he couldn't afford to act rashly.

With the bigger picture in mind, King wouldn't have many chances to help Reese again in the future.

Once they exited this room, there was no telling what she would encounter next. She didn't have a single clue, and neither did he.

Soon, Reese was finished packing and she walked out of the room with King. She saw how curious the werebear nurse looked and she remembered that she was breaking the rules by having her necklace with her. At that moment, Reese's heart started beating wildly, and the nerve-wracking fear of being discovered instantly occupied her entire mind.

Meanwhile, King did not look back at Reese even once since they left the room together. He only nodded at the werebear nurse, then left.

The nurse gazed at the male doctor's departing silhouette. He was tall and imposing. The ears on her head wriggled again as she shyly watched him leave.

The whole corridor was quiet except for King's voice as he was walking away. "Make arrangements. I want to take a shower."

The nearest electronic surveillance device in the corridor replied, "Yes, Doctor King."

So it turned out that the male werebeast was named King, and he was actually a doctor. It was only now that Reese came to know the name of the bad guy who had just terrorized her.

It was a pity that no matter how sophisticated his name sounded, it had already become a synonym for scoundrel in Reese's heart.

King turned a corner and disappeared. The nurse came to her senses and looked closely at the human girl.

Glancing Reese up and down, she thought to herself, 'This human being that King cares about is so average and weak, and her chest isn't even as big as mine. What right does she have to hog his attention? She's as thin as a monkey too. What's so attractive about her?'

Unfortunately, King didn't have the answer either. After all, that had been an instinctive impulse. He himself couldn't explain what happened earlier, and why he found even a casual glance from that petite woman extremely arousing.

As Reese waited for her next instruction, she noticed the werebear nurse sizing her up. Such a scrutinizing gaze made her feel even more flustered than King's aggressive gaze earlier.

While she was still feeling distressed, she heard the nurse scoff at her before she coldly said, "Follow me!"

The werebear nurse had no doubt one of the best physiques among the werebeasts. With just a few steps, she was already far ahead of Reese, who had no choice but to speed up into a little jog to catch up.

The surrounding walls along the way were all a metallic gray. It seemed like there was a lot of technological equipment installed to watch over the mental patients. There were also many areas that were of a special color unique to liquid metal―a color that carried a bit of sparkling silver and occasionally revealed a liquid-like appearance. Those who didn't know better might think that it was just ordinary metal.

However, Reese was secretly speechless. If she was not mistaken, this was the most advanced liquid metal in the galaxy at the moment. Every square centimeter of liquid metal was priceless.

Ever since she was born, even though her family was relatively wealthy on Earth, there weren't many chances for her to come across this kind of liquid metal, let alone possess it.

Meanwhile, there was a palm-sized piece of this liquid metal on the doors of almost every room in this place.

This liquid metal was exceptional because of the advancement in technology thanks to the many types of weapons that had been developed by people. Although this type of metal did not pose a threat on its own, once it was in the hands of someone who knew how to utilize it, and understood the new weapon models well enough, this palm-sized liquid metal was enough to be shaped into the forms of countless types of weapons. Moreover, the power of these replica weapons would be comparable to that of the original ones, as long as they were shaped with accurate data input and information.

Clearly, this place had once again shocked Reese. It was definitely called 'the most stringent hospital in the galaxy' for a reason. Now, it looked like it was almost impossible for her to escape.

With every step that Reese was walking further into the hospital, the hazier her hopes of escaping this hospital seemed to become.

The hospital was almost completely enclosed, and its corridor was like a winding maze. She had been walking for nearly ten minutes but hadn't met a single person on the way. The more she walked, the more disheartened she became. Since there was no one guarding this place, it meant that advanced technology was used instead, which would make it all the more difficult to break out.

As Reese was trying to commit this route to memory, she suddenly bumped into the back of the werebeast nurse in front. It turned out that they had arrived at her "cell."

"King has requested a private room for you. Please enjoy!"

As she spoke, she pushed Reese into the room. "There's a schedule in the room. You have to do what you're supposed to do during the designated time. Don't even think about escaping. Any remaining time is your free time. However, I advise you to behave yourself and to not try any pointless resistance."

In response to the nurse's warning, Reese did not protest and only nodded obediently. Then, she walked in and took a good look at the single room which she would be staying in for an indefinite amount of time.

The nurse was surprised to see that Reese had obeyed her orders obediently. She shook her ears and hissed through her teeth as a power move before closing the door. Without any fingerprint access or permission to leave and enter freely, patients had no way of opening the room, and the room seemed more like it was for prisoners instead of patients.

Although the nurse looked quite fierce, Reese still found it a little cute when she bared her teeth to make the hissing warning sound earlier, so she smiled, for the first time in half a day.

It was just a slight smile, but in a way, it also gave her some hope for the days ahead.

Hopefully, this slightly endearing werebear nurse, 0023, would be the one to handle all of her matters in the future.

Reese sat on her bed and stared coldly at the small room. Even with special privilege, this single room was still rather tiny and plain. It was basically cold-color-themed, and most of it was a metallic color that gave it a futuristic look. There were no windows, and on the left side of the door was a small washroom, while diagonally opposite that was simply a table and a chair. At the bottom of the wall furthest from the door was a sleeping chamber. There were special restraint straps in it, as well as a box for nutrient fluids and medicine, which would be convenient for immobile patients to reach for their food and medicine to ingest. Other than these, there was nothing else.
