After Mr. Gates had given everyone a grade, he collected all of their work as both their physical products and their grades would be recorded and filed.
After that, everyone queued up in the cafeteria and entered their serial number into the optical supercomputer, which then distributed food according to their results.
Many people in front of her received fresh food, which looked very nutritious with equal portions of meat and vegetables. Reese had been hungry the whole day, so she was very envious, as she was still not sure what kind of food was awaiting her.
Apart from food, some people only received nutrient fluids. Due to the different grades, the sizes they received also varied. Some people collected a large bottle of purple nutrient fluid, while others only got a palm-sized bottle.
Finally, it was Reese's turn. Holding her breath, she entered her serial number into the optical supercomputer. Then, with a "bang," the machine next to the optical supercomputer spat out a bottle of nutrient fluid of about 300ml or so.
Unlike the bright and appetizing colors that the people in front had received, hers was a bottle of grayish-black liquid that looked a little murky. It had a few words written on it—
"Pfft, waste decomposition nutrient fluid. Ha ha ha."
The person behind Reese was one of those who had been sitting with Julie earlier. When she saw this, she immediately laughed out loud and called for everyone to mock Reese.
However, Reese did not try to defend herself. She just took her "dinner" and left.
In the distance, the three werebeasts had been observing Reese. Seeing that she didn't have any fresh food to eat, they pictured the next scene in their minds countless times—her resorting to selling her body to beg for food.
Therefore, they acted on it. The three of them belonged to the ugly crocodile species. With their huge mouths hanging open, they walked towards Reese while drooling.
"Beauty, is there no food for you? Don't worry. Come with us quickly, I'll share some food with you!"
With the advantage of her acute senses, Reese had seen them strolling over and immediately felt that something was amiss. She immediately turned and ran.
"Little beauty, don't run! Why aren't you waiting for me?"
Reese's running caused a disturbance and attracted the attention of nurses to maintain discipline. The few werebeasts gave up but still said, "You'll have to beg us later! Don't be foolish!"
Reese returned to her room. Having starved for an entire day, the taste of the liquid was still bearable, as the questionable nutrient fluid was simply used to allay her hunger. Reese drank it expressionlessly while her mind was on something else.
Just as she was halfway through her drink, she suddenly heard some movement outside the door. She immediately put down the bottle in her hand and tiptoed to the door of the room. Through a small stream of light, she spotted a silhouette swaying past.
"This figure… Could it be… him?"
Just as she was standing in front of the door wondering, there was a firm knock on the door. She held her breath in fear and tried to hide her presence.
"Room check." The voice sounded familiar.
When Reese opened the door, she realized that it was indeed King. She was right. Had she already become so familiar with sensing his presence?
"Why are you here? Shouldn't you be resting at this time?"
"Yes, but I'm here to check on your condition," King replied.
He ran a few simple tests on her, but his movements were not following standard procedure.
Reese was a PhD student who specialized in this field, so how would she not realize that this person was not actually examining her seriously?
Hence, she shook her head and dodged King's touch.
She stared at him.
King was also looking at her. Her hair was made all messy by him and she had his scent all over her—she looked beyond lovely. He couldn't help but stroke her head and say to her. "So cute."
Reese was baffled by the sudden touch on her head.
"Sleep early tonight," he said and left.
As King closed the door, Reese realized that he had secretly brought her some small and convenient food items. Just when she had been fretting about having to starve. At the thought of this, she couldn't help but feel warmth in her heart.
Who knew that bad guy was actually pretty cool? As Reese ate, she recalled what had just happened and a smile appeared on her face.
But what she did not know was that before he left, King had secretly installed a small surveillance camera in Reese's room while she wasn't looking.
After her dinner, Reese went to wash up and came out with her hair still wet. As she was drying her hair, a spot of light suddenly flashed across her face. Immediately, she guessed that it was probably a surveillance camera. She was appalled at the thought of this.
Other than herself, King was the only other person who had been here today. She hadn't expected him to be such a person. On the surface, he seemed caring and concerned about her, but in reality, he was a perverted voyeur. This was too infuriating.
Reese raised her middle finger and showed a provocative expression. Then, she picked up her shoes and sent them flying towards the camera. She only felt better when the camera was destroyed.
Meanwhile, King had returned to his room. Through his screen, he had witnessed the entire process, from her discovery to her solution to the "problem."
He could not help but marvel at how such a small and weak girl like her had such keen observation skills.
Most importantly, the way she behaved was simply too adorable!
He broke into a smile. He recalled with relish, the delightful post-bath image of her that he had seen. It was sultry yet also a little cheeky, like a little kitten. He felt an itch within as if it had been lightly scratched by the kitten's claws. He had an urge to pat her head again like he had done earlier, to pacify this fuming kitten.
He probably did not realize how widely he was smiling. It was a stark contrast to his usual serious and composed image.
However, King didn't understand why Reese was so mad. After all, he had only good intentions, as he was worried that some werebeasts would find trouble with her. He did not expect such a silly misunderstanding to occur.
