A million thoughts went through Rachel's brain. She tried to remove these negative thoughts away but she just can't bear the thought of not being able to see Morgan, her mother and father. "Will I be able to escape this place?", "Will the plan even work?", "What happens to the others when I get out?" These words echoed louder in her ears. The thoughts of losing the people she cared about will eventually be her own fault. She couldn't fall to sleep.
The planning is tomorrow and the countdown is coming soon. She is not ready to fight. She barely knows how to stand her own ground for at least 20 seconds. No matter how much effort she puts into her training she doesn't know if there's time to get ready.
She rolled around her bed, trying to make herself fall asleep. She heard her door open. She looked up and saw Mikaela. "What are you doing here?" Rachel asked her. Mikaela walked towards the wall to her right and leaned. She added, "I couldn't sleep. Someone has been rolling around her bed for too long"
"You heard it? I'm sorry." Rachel apologised.
"No, don't be. Something must've been on your mind for you to be rolling around your bed in the middle of the night. Something you wanna tell me?" Mikaela said with a worried tone. But she was exhausted. All the events that happened in the afternoon really warned her. She couldn't fall asleep with this noise.
"It's just that I'm worried-"
"Worried that the plan might not work and you will be stuck here facing the consequences with the rest of us?" Mikaela finished her sentence. Rachel looked at her and nodded. She continued saying, "And even if it worked, what happens to you? What will they do to you?"
Mikaela's eyes opened wide. She giggled and said, "You really care for us do you? More than my own parents ever would."
She took a deep breath and added, "I know these thoughts are on your mind right now. And you're worried for us. Which I'm really glad about. But the worst case scenario is you failed to get to Time Square safely. What happens to us should be none of your business. And if you ask whether we'll get killed, we won't, we will be punished but that is all."
"But what happens if they come after me?" Rachel said.
"They won't because they are banned from getting into Time Square. If your government finds out they will kill the entire population of Mekolan. And the government here doesn't want to take that risk. You will be able to get back to Time Square. I'm sure of it"
They have 3 days left. Rachel barely has enough time to get herself ready. The feeling of not being able to see her best friend again and her parents? She cannot bear the pain and the feeling of losing them and them losing her. She looked at Mikaela and said, "How are you so sure?" Mikaela looked at her with a calm, angelic face. She took a deep breath and gave a nice calming smile. She responded, "Because you have me" Both giggled.
Mikaela added, "Now it's late at night. REALLY late at night. You should rest for tomorrow because you got training in the afternoon with Nathan. He will help you while I get to run some errands" Mikaela said and she headed out of the door.
"Good night" Rachel said,
"Good night to you too" Mikaela responded and closed the door. Rachel layed down and took a deep breath. The negative thoughts are out of her mind. She closed her eyes and slept.
She woke up feeling more energetic than last night. She got out of bed and did her daily routine. She went out of the room and ate breakfast. "How was the night?" Nathan asked everyone. Rachel couldn't hear the question. She was too mesmerised from the delicious food on the table.
She was brought back to reality by Mikaela and said, "Oh it was alright. After Mikaela and I had a nice conversation." She said while smiling at Mikaela. " That is wonderful to hear," Marcus said. They finished their breakfast and started planning. Nathan took out a huge map of the Government's Headquarters. The times of each guarde breaks and when they change to a different guard. He took time to analyse the entire Headquarters and did some research while being over there.
"Okay so from what i know, most of the guards will be having night shifts because that's when most of the break in happens. They took extra precautions to make sure that no one breaks in. They hide more secrets than anyone in Mekolan." Nathan said.
"So when is the best time to break in?" Mikaela said looking at the blueprints then looking directly at Nathan's eyes. Nathan looked at Mikaela and added, "3am. From what I know, most of the guards will be leaving for outdoor scanning in the neighbourhood. They want to check to see if anyone is awake in the middle of the night."
"Why would they be scanning the area?" Rachel asked.
"And whenever they find someone lingering out at night. They would be taken in for
"To make sure no one is planning to break into the Headquarters" They all looked at Marcus as he answered. Rachel froze at her place. Another thought went through her head. She barely knows anything about Mekolan. All she knows is they are ruthless, they treat their people horribly and they just want to rule over a world rather than taking care of the people. She doesn't know anything about the guards. How they act and how they fight. A familiar voice came out of nowhere, "The guards are known to be quick and stealthy. In the morning, they would pretend to be normal civilians and take anyone who is suspicious to them. But when it is night time, they like to hide in the dark, they would sneak up on us and take us down" Marcus explained.
Rachel is shocked, they were going to do it at night. How are they supposed to defeat them before they get caught? A million words of anxiety showered in her brain. She started to bite her lip and her palms started to become sweaty. She is hesitant to even try at all. But if she doesn't, how will she ever see her best friend again? And her parents?
Don't worry Rachel, Nathan and I are very skilled in fighting, some of them I know how they fight. I saw them under their disguises. You have us, don't worry" Mikaela tries to cheer Rachel up. She puts her hand on Rachel's shoulder and tries to give her some hope that she will be able to go back to Time Square.
"Yep! Don't worry! You have us with you! I'll help train you to become better! More skilled!" Nathan said to Rachel. Rachel still felt hesitant, having some doubts in herself. She doesn't have any experience in fighting and she doesn't even know if she can beat them at all. What if she can't land a single punch on them? What if she gets apprehended first? The word if has been circling in her mind for so long. She doesn't even know if they have the power to stop them. She doesn't even know how big the army even is. Even if they are one of the best, what if they're not good enough to beat them?
" Rachel, I've been fighting for all of my life. I've been training, learning from one of the best fighters in all of Mekolan. And so does Nathan!" Mikaela said. Rachel looks at Nathan and he smiles at her. She looks back at Mikaela and continues, "I know this is probably one of the scariest shit you've ever been through. But I'm the best fighter in Mekolan, they are no match for me, or even Nathan!"
"And who cares about the size of the army? Bigger army doesn't mean they have the power. I promise you, we will get you back home" Mikaela said. Rachel heard the other voices of Marcus and Nathan. Rachel smiles and says, "So… When does training start?"
