"The first time, I was young. I didn't realize what they were. My mother was working on a movie in China, and while she was busy—."
Across from me, Dorian's face lights with a breathtaking smile. "Hold up there. Your mother was an actress?"
"No." I shake my head. "She did some acting in high school and college, but she gravitated to costume design. When she graduated Berkeley, she got hired right out of college by a movie studio."
He huffs, then mutters, "Well, that explains your looks."
"It doesn't actually. My mom was average looking at best. It's my dad I take after."
"Still seems a reasonable place to meet someone with your looks."
"Where? China?"
Dorian gives me a deliberately blank stare. "A movie studio."
