With much of the packhouse and the residences and businesses in the valley destroyed, and the tunnels below filled with slowly-thawing dead Rényú, there's little choice but to withdraw inland to a securer location. Though everyone heard Sean issuing commands and coordinating the battle efforts, the order to withdraw is issued by Ivan, as the only surviving official leader of the Desert triumvirate. With Silas' death, the absence of a MacOmb voice in Desert leadership—the first time since the pack established in this country—doesn't go unnoticed by the unsettled and demoralized Weres.
