Casey was happy Vera's life was finally able to go back to normal. He really was!
Seeing her be her usual cheerful self at that fish and chips place next to her store came as a great relief. The problem was that now that she didn't need to be checked up on, he had absolutely no reason to text her.
She didn't text him either. She was likely too busy.
People like Vera and people like him were worlds apart. She may not have a social life but her life was way busier and more fulfilling than his.
He read all day at work to fix errors then came home and read all night if Kane wasn't bugging him about something or other. She had been the most interesting part of his life for the brief time she was in it.
Casey tried telling himself it was for the best that they weren't talking anymore so he could forget about her and move on without getting mixed up with anyone else again but it didn't work. He missed her. And it had been years since he missed anyone.
