Kane very reluctantly processed his anger. He knew being mad wouldn't do anything for him but it still couldn't be helped. Everything about his situation sucked.
He pulled himself together so he would be in a better mood once Vera arrived. If he was still mad when she came, the whole visit would be wasted. He didn't want that since he had limited opportunities to see her lately.
When she came in she wasn't looking up. "Hey, Casey! I brought you Cheez-Its today and—Oh. Hi, Kane. Do you like Cheez-Its?"
Her usual disappointment was there but only for a second. Why? Because she had seen so much of Casey lately that she didn't see Kane showing up as that major of a setback?
"Yeah," Kane said as he took the box and tossed it on the bed before hugging her for longer than usual.
