Chapter 23 - Falling for the Fallen (Part 5)

Looking at keys on the bed she gulped before grabbing them and releasing her wrists and ankles.

"This better not be a trap... I swear to god-!" looking at the open door leading to an empty hallway she bit her tongue. The silence was suffocating and worse than that was the unpredictability of the demon.

Running through the door and down the hallway she saw the chaos the devil had caused. Creeping over all the broken shards she noticed something moving around in the corner of her eye. Spinning around to see what it was she realized the devil was curled up against the wall.

Looking between the door to freedom and his pathetic appearance she winced as her heart hurt yet again. Tiptoeing towards him she cautiously tapped his head. He slowly lifted his head and gazed at her with empty but longing eyes. Who could he see in her that he had such an expression she wondered.

"..." he paused unsure at what she wanted.

"I've got no way home, and nowhere to go."

"..." with his head flopped sided he furrowed his brows.

"... Take..." she murmured under her breath.

"huh?"

"So you have to take responsibility! Right!?" she yelled fisting her hands and glaring him head on with wide eyes.

"Surely any place is better than here and who knows what I'll do," he paused and looked away, "caging you up might be the least of your worries."

"But it's my choice this time" she stood unconvinced that he would do any worse.

"If you stay here now you'll never be able to leave... Please go your... " he strained, gritting his teeth.

"no, I don't believe you."

"Please leave..."

"..."

"Leave!" he sternly shouted as he realized there was still determination in her eyes, "why?"

"... I'm curious"

"What could you possibly be curious about?" he looked unconvinced.

"I'm not sure yet, or maybe I've just forgotten..." she hesitated before crouching in front of him twisting his hair around her fingers, "I'll let you know when I find my reason."

Grabbing her wrist, he looked up with expectant and fearful eyes that still held the same longing in them.

"Sorry... I don't know who your looking for," she stood up and walked back into her room not looking back.

"... Its you" he swallowed.

6 months later ~

"What are you making?" she asked as the demon moved around the kitchen preparing something.

"Food."

"Well I know that! But what food?" she huffed impatiently.

"steak."

"pfft" she chuckled as he looked up from what he was doing.

"What?" he furrowed.

"Nothing, just... It suits you," she wheezed as she looked at his apron.

"What does?" he questioned confused as to why she was so hysterical.

"Pftt... *hic*... That..." she choked as he looked where she pointed to, "wahahahaha!"

Curled over she kept looking up at the pink apron covered in cute cats and love hearts. Stopping what he was doing, he also chuckled at himself. He had only worn it because she had burnt his after her failed attempts at baking cookies.

"Hey give me that thing that puts a mini you in it!" she chirped.

"The phone you mean... To take a picture?" he asked knowing it didn't matter how many times he told her she still didn't remember, though she already knew most of its functions.

"Yeah that thing!" she gleamed expectantly.

"No."

"Yaaay- wait. What? No?" she looked shocked he'd usually agreed to all her demands no matter how selfish in the six months since he'd let her free.

"Nope your not getting my phone to take a picture of me like this." he sounded adamant.

"Whyyyy~?" she groaned as she glance around looking for it.

"Because it's embarrassing and I'd not be able to return to civilization if anyone saw..." he grumbled as he added the potatoes he'd sliced up into a fryer.

'Bingo! "

Looking at his back pocket she snuck forward and reached towards it only to find herself pushed back against the counter top.

"Huh?" she swallowed and looked up at the demon as his eyes pierced through her soul.

"Don't... Don't push me angel." he gritted out as he turned back around to check if the steaks were cooked yet.

Snapping out of the shock she inhaled before scampering off covering her shameful expression.

Both of them sitting down at the table she looked up shyly, prodding her food with a fork.

"What?" he asked not looking up from his dish as his beautifully sculpted hands cut through the meat revealing how the veins coiled down his wrists like snakes.

"...Cut it for me." she pouted as she slid the plate across to him. Unsure as to whether he was still behaving strangely or was just his usual stoic self she looked up at his face that concentrated on cutting her food up into small pieces.

"Done," his monotonous voice echoed through the silence as he stood up carrying her plate as he walked behind her.

"Huh?" she looked up to meet his face centimeters away from her own. So close she could feel and hear his rugged breath.

"What would you do without me?" a smirk followed his sweet sadistic tone.

*clink*

The plate tapped on the table snapping her from the trance as he sat back down.

"..."

"Night, angel" he hummed as he walked out from the living room.

"nn-hnn" she nodded hugging her legs as she curled up into a ball on the couch.

'The silence in the room is peaceful unlike before... What was wrong with that demon he's behaving strangely... "

Her mind buzzed with questions as her breathing slowed down.

"... Iris? Iris~" a familiar voice called out as she opened her eyes to a blue sky," ~Where are you?~"

'Demon'

A face popped out above hers and sure enough it was him although his eyes were filled with light and happiness. Something she had never seen before.

'Demon?!'

"Found you~" he smiled warmly down at her as she struggled to think what was happening.

Sitting up she looked at him puzzled at his strange behavior that was even more nerve wracking than his behavior during their meal.

"What's wrong?"

"Ugh, nothing" she groaned rubbing her head as she looked around. She was sitting on the same mountain she always dreamt about, only unlike all her other dreams he was here.

"Really? But you didn't call my name like you usually do." he smiled his eyes cut like crescents.

"Huh? But I..." the atmosphere had changed and the person in front of her had lost all expression.

"You left me."

"What?! No I didn't! You told me to leave and I stayed!" she yelled, his eyes becoming stained with red as tears of blood poured down his face.

"You forgot me," he drawled on as she she began to panic, "Why didn't you call my name?!"

His distorted face blurred in front of her eyes as blood oozed out from the ground around her.

"My name!" he coughed as the poisonous liquid gushed out, "*splutter* name!"

"*Hic* I don't know! I don't remember!" she screamed crawling away from him but to no avail as her back hit a rock.

"... Astar"

"Huh?!" she choked on her tears as a blinding light brought back the past she'd been forced to forget.

"Angel!" he shook her awake having noticed her distressed face whilst placing a blanket on her.

"I'm *hic* sorry" she coughed wrapping her arms around his back as the tears uncontrollably fell, "Don't die... not again.."

Realizing what she had said he tried calling her in an attempt to pull her out from the trance she was in, "Iris!"

Pushing her away from him, he cupped her cheeks and looked through her distant eyes. Wondering as to why after six months of her not remembering anything she suddenly started having nightmares

"Please wake up..." he whispered, wiping away the tears under her eyes, "I'm here, shhh..."

Wrapping her up in the blanket he picked up her shivering body he carried her to her bed. Lying down next to her he stroked the hair of her face behind her ear as she hiccupped trying to catch her breath.

"shh, go to sleep angel," he whispered as her pale face struggled to keep her eyes open, "I'll stay near you."

Although the fear of her not remembering the next day was terrifying, the thought of her having to spend a night awake in pain was worse.

Holding her close to his chest he swallowed holding in his selfish desires, "... I'm sorry"
