The heat was not the reason for what I was doing this time. I'm very aware of my actions and know I won't be sorry afterward. My fist balled up again, striking her face with more force, and she tried to shift. Before she could, I broke her left wrist, and she tried to claw at my throat. So yes, I felt justified.
She got a few good shots in. Unfortunately, I'll have a black eye tomorrow, and my nose is bleeding. So, instead of backing off, I shake it off. Did they hurt? Of course, they did, but I've been through worse.
Jayla arrived when she heard us screaming and ran to get help. She'd found Luke, who came running and asked me why I was thrashing Jessica. When I growled out a half-screamed explanation, he demanded to know why Jessica disobeyed him. Then he stopped trying to pull me off Jessica when I told him what she'd said. After that, I heard him tell everyone to leave us alone.
