"Where are you?" I asked the wind, acting like a love-sick child. Yet, I couldn't help it. Today was a bad day.
Nothing eventful had happened in the past week. Zoe and Patrick were content with the arrangement I now had with Zoe's parents. James was coming around to the idea of Zoe staying with me because I didn't prevent anyone from seeing or talking to her. Scott had drawn up the legal documents and signed everything. The crystals in the tank were growing steadily, and there had been no mishaps so far.
The only thing that wasn't moving forward was the door.
Liz had read so many books but had yet to come up with anything. She wasn't giving up, but what more could I ask from her or anyone else? It was already asking everyone for an impossible task, and it was the one I wanted to work out the most. Why? Some crazy part of me knew Ivan wouldn't return alone. It just scared me to think he might not want to.
