"Ivan isn't coming back," I whispered, staring at the phone for the millionth time. "He's not here."
"No, I don't think he is," Dylan agreed, taking the plate from me. "He still has to be in the trials."
"What if they lied?" I didn't want to think about what was happening to him or how long he'd been there. "What if he can't come back on his own?"
"Neffy…" Dylan sighed, preparing himself to tell me I had to focus on our problem, but he was hesitant.
Dylan didn't need to tell me. I already knew. There was no way we could go find Ivan; whatever he was going through, he had to do it alone. That didn't stop me from worrying about him or wishing I could help him. No matter how strong the static between Jushion and me was, my bond with Ivan was much stronger. I could feel his soul reaching out for mine, even if his mind didn't remember me. Last night, I dreamed of him instead of Jushion, and it felt like he needed me to save him.
