My thoughts returned to that first day but didn't improve the tension.
Things had been quiet, but that was only an illusion of the truth. This was the quiet before the storm, and that storm was coming for us. The only reason we'd had a few weeks of peace was thanks to our friends. Without them, my father would've caught us already, and I don't know what would've happened. There were so many close calls, but at least for now, we were safe.
"Come on, baby girl," I urged, holding the fork for Nefra, hoping she'd eat. "A few more bites. You need your strength."
"I'll try," She mumbled, opening her mouth and letting me give her the tiny morsel of food.
