You hear stories of oracles and seers in books and movies, but no one knows the truth of what happens when the real thing happens.
It's very different from the smoke, raspy voices, and intimidating and menacing warnings. At least that's how I felt. For me, it was peaceful and beautiful. That didn't make it any less intimidating, especially when you're asking the fates themselves for help. Did it matter that one of them was my child? No, it didn't. That only made it worse.
The room around us didn't change, but that's only because my body stayed where it was supposed to be. My soul did not feel the need to do the same. I was pulled away from the chair without moving, and no one noticed. Everyone was busy watching Eli as she grabbed the deck Anika chose, silently opening the wrapper while looking at me.
I wasn't there anymore, though.
