She had no idea that the names were a reminder for Van of the people who would always love him. His family had made this for him to protect himself in battle. It might be a staff, but it was also a shield. Each of them gifted a piece of themselves for the magic to strengthen him. I didn't see what Vali gave, but Van saw it on the staff as Melissa held onto it, a chain of odd gems full of energy.
"And before anyone asks. Yes, it's been authenticated and certified." Glancing at Asher, Melissa clarified her point before setting the staff back inside the box. "So, what do you both say?"
