"Are you sure you want to do this?" Luke asked me as we walked the last few feet.
"No, but I've got no choice." Jumping over a log, I stare at the secret entrance, knowing this is my last chance to turn back. "Nefera already knows I'm here."
An enormous wolf appeared in front of us, sniffing the air before tilting its head to Luke in respect.
"Hey, Carlos. Everything alright?" The wolf's eyes glaze over, and Luke laughs at whatever he says. "Well, that's at least interesting for your shift."
Carlos nods and steps aside, letting us go by. As we pass, Luke rubs him affectionately on the back of the neck, making the wolf growl in appreciation. I make my hand into a fist, holding it out for the wolf. He lifts his paw, giving me a version of a fist bump before starting his rounds again. Though I didn't know everyone in Luke's pack, I'd hung out with Carlos a few times.
